‘Be the Best You Can Be’
9th October 2020
Dear Parents
Once again we come to the end of a busy but very positive week at Brewood.
Thank you for all those parents who have ensured that their child is carrying a spare face mask ‘just in case’ as this will reduce the amount that we are having to provide and avoid wastage of this valuable resource.
Remember: Hands, Face, Space
Wear Something Yellow
Thank you to all those parents and pupils who supported the fund raising event for
Young Minds by “wearing something yellow” today. Young Minds is theUK'sleading charity fighting for
children and young people's mental health. They will make sure all young people get the best possible
mental healthsupport and advice often from people who themselves have had issues with their mental
health. Thank you to Mrs Highfield for organising the event.
End of the Day arrangements
Just to confirm that the current arrangements for the end of the day will continue for a couple more weeks until after half term.
You should have received a letter yesterday outlining the new arrangements that will apply from w/b 2.11.20. As I said in my letter, as we will now have more pupils on foot leaving the car park, for the safety of the pupils we will unfortunately not be able to allow parents’ cars on to the school site as they have done up to this point. The barrier at the entrance to school will be lowered each morning to ensure the safety of all pupils and will once again be controlled by school staff who will only permit entrance in the case of an emergency. I hope that you understand and support us with these new arrangements.
Harvest
Due to the current restrictions we are having to change our normal Harvest routine as we are unable to visit St Mary’s church for our service.
Thank you to those parents who have already spoken to the school about the donations that will be
collected next week as part of our support for ‘The Well’ foodbank in Wolverhampton. Donation boxes will be placed in each classroom next week to collect the items of food and other goods that are required by the food bank. ‘The Well’ serves the people of Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas delivering food parcels to over 9,500 people in a year. With the amazing help of our generous supporters like the parents and pupils of Brewood CE Middle Academy they deliver food parcels to over 100 homes each week. The aim will be to see which class / year group can collect the most items to help those people who are struggling in the current circumstances.
Thank you for your support and enjoy your weekend.

Brewood’s Harvest Donations
We know that times are difficult at the moment,
but would be grateful if
your child could bring at
least one non
-
perishable
food item into school and
put it in their form group’s
food donation box during
the week beginning 12th October.
The Well are delighted that we will be supporting
them again this year and have particularly asked
for donations of chocolate biscuits, individual
cakes, tinned fruit, ladies / gents toiletries, tea &
coffee, pasta, fruit squash/juice, baby products,
jam.
We are hoping to run a competition to see which
year group can collect the most food when we have
the ‘Class Count’ each day. Results will be fed back
to each of the classes by their Year Leader.
Thank you for your support.
Celebrating the Success of
our Pupils
As you know we really enjoy sharing the
successes of our pupils and as we are
currently unable to invite our families into
school to share these in our weekly
Celebration Praise we will be posting
these in our weekly newsletter.
It is therefore really important that you
complete
and
return
your

Permission Form which have been sent
out to you recently as soon as possible.

Local Academy Committee
’
I
’
m delighted to join the Local academy Committee as a parent
representative. My background is 34 years in banking, in a variety of
senior roles, that has given me a comprehensive understanding of the
financial aspects of businesses as well as experience of dealing with
people from all different backgrounds. In my spare time I mentor both
businesses & individuals & undertake various voluntary activities to
try to give back something to the communities in which I work.
My children have both attended St Mary
’
s & Brewood & in taking on
this responsibility it enables me to give back to the school some of the
support they have shown my children. I would be delighted to hear
your views so please reach out to me if there is something you would
like me to raise with the committee .

Blue Peter Music Achievement
At the start of lockdown Lewis’s (8MD) guitar teacher Anthony Green and Miss Forbes put out about applying for a special Blue Peter Music Badge that has been designed by Ed Sheeran to celebrate Music Day. Lewis put in an application back in May and he has received a letter from them today. He has been selected and has received a badge, they have also sent a lovely letter.
Lewis has continued with his guitar tuition every week throughout lockdown and has even sat his Grade 3 exam while waiting for the results. He is now onto grade 4 and halfway through the grades.
BREWOOD BOOKWORM

Thank you to parents and pupils who have returned their overdue books over the
last few days. It is much appreciated! However, we still have a large number of
library books that have not yet been returned. Can I ask that everyone please
spare ten minutes at home to search for your overdue books. Check under your
beds, bookshelves, top of wardrobes etc.
Thank you!
Book of the Week
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night

Time by Mark Haddon.

When I first started my role as School Librarian, one of my objectives was to get an
understanding of what books our children are reading. Mrs Chatter referred me to TES
100 books school children should read before leaving school. I am gradually reading my
way through the list, and this book is on the list and consequently managed to read it
last week. The main character, Christopher Boone knows all the countries of the world
and their capitals and every prime number up to 7,057. He relates well to animals but
has no understanding of Human emotions. He cannot stand to be touched and he detests
the colour yellow. He lives on patterns, rules, and a diagram kept in his pocket. Without
knowing it at the time, his world his tipped upside down when he discovers that the next
doors dog, Wellington has been killed. Christopher sets out to find who killed the dog
and solve the crime in the style of Sherlock Holmes. What follows makes for a novel
that is often funny and sad in equal measures but ultimately gives some understanding of
a person that lives with autism. suitable for Year 8 and able readers only.
This book is available in the school Library.
