BASKETBALL MATCH REPORTS Under 7 Sky

The Under 7's Sky Basketball Team had a fantastic first game. The girls were passing like superstars, dribbling like there was no tomorrow, some outstanding shots at the goal with some actually making it through the

hoop and above all the 'don't give up attitude' these little ladies had on court was awesome! Big smiles and loads of sweat on all 7 little faces made for a fun game.

U11 Boys Navy 49 v Carina Vipers 2

The first game for the season was a great one for the boys! They displayed great teamwork and passing, with a special mention to Cooper ‘3 point’ Jones, for scoring a 3 point shot in the final seconds of the match. Great job boys!

U13 Boys Metro Navy 19 v BJ Hornets 17

The first game for the year had the boys (Jared Smith, Andrew Sultana, Sam Macbeth, Keagan Forbes, Lachlan Andrews, Lachlan Kelly, Liam Forbes, Hayden McKillop and Kayden Swanson)

playing against BJ Hornets on a wet day in the Carina Stadium. The constant rain from Cyclone Marcia resulted in slippery courts, so it was a case of staying on your feet and being careful. The game started off slowly with both teams finding their way and it was the Hornets who made the better of the first half leading 8 points to Sheldon Navy’s 5 at the break.

The second half had both teams contesting the ball well, not wanting to give the other side an advantage. The Sheldon boys were rotated well giving everyone a good go on the court and were able to claw back the lead to be trailing by 1 point (Sheldon 14 to Hornets 15) with 2 minutes to go. The final 2 minutes took much longer than 2 minutes with play stoppages and with both teams using time-outs for team strategies. At 1 minute to go it was the Hornets who extended their lead with another basket, but the gritty Sheldon boys didn’t give up and rallied with some baskets and free throws to hit the lead with 20 seconds to go. There were more free throws on both sides with the Sheldon team being victorious at the end of a closely contested and exciting game. There were at least 5 scoring players and some good defence all round. It was a thrilling match and a great way to start the season – well done.

The coach’s pick for player of the week is Andrew Sultana for his great defensive efforts.

U15 Boys AR White

The boys had a tough start to the season but never stopped fighting for the ball the entire game.

Zach showed extraordinary tenacity in both defense and offence. Alex displayed his leadership skills and gave great direction on-court. With his strong rebounding and scoring, Nick was the Player of the Week for the match. A promising start to the season!

TOUCH FOOTBALL REPORTS U12 Titans 7 v St Rita’s 5

Game one of the season saw a new group of warriors band together to form the mighty Titans outfit for 2015. These players have come from near and wide to be a part of something special.

In their first encounter they came up against a well-respected opponent from St Rita's. Although this team towered above them in statue they were shadowed by the determination and grit of the Titan band of brothers and sisters. The game started with an early try to the Titans and from then till close of match, the two mighty teams went blow for blow.

It was truly a team effort that saw the Titans' clinch a 7-5 victory; however, some standouts amongst the Titans were wingers Luke Covill and Max Hooper, Zach Schofield and Sebastian Hines in the centres and a master class in rucking from Player of the Week: Parker Askin.
