Executive Summary
• The IT landscape has changed dramatically. Virtualization has moved from proof of concept to mainstream production and now spans the organization, requiring a complete management solution that ensures application availability, performance, and reliability at high production volumes. As such, organizational needs with regard to virtualization initiatives are evolving.
• Quest Software conducted a survey of more than 200 IT professionals to gain insight into the status of their respective companies’ virtualization deployments across the organization, as well as to determine their top virtualization priorities for 2012.
• Results show that the top business requirements most likely to drive virtualization initiatives in 2012 are: (1) improving business agility; (2) delivering cost savings; (3) meeting increasingly demanding user expectations; and (4) managing the growing mobile workforce.
• Moreover, the survey indicated that a significant portion of IT budgets in 2012 will be allocated to virtualization-related initiatives; more than half of respondents indicated that their organizations planned to allocate at least 25 percent of annual spending to virtualization projects.
