Air/water heat pump

General

FIGHTER 2020 is an air/water heat pump, specially de-signed for the Nordic climate. FIGHTER 2020 utilises the outside air so there is no need for bore holes or coils in the ground. FIGHTER 2020 is designed to be docked to water based heating systems.

New efficient scroll compressor that operates at tem-peratures down to -20 °C.

Automatic 2-step capacity regulator for the fan. Manufactured in three sizes: 8, 10 and 14 kW.

Integrated intelligent control for optimum control of the heat pump. FIGHTER 2020 is started by a start signal from another unit, return sensor or thermostat. FIGHTER 2020-8 and -10 are ideally docked to the indoor unit VVM 300 (accessory). This contains controls and consists of a hot water heater and additional heater in the form of an electric boiler. FIGHTER 2020 and VVM 300 together make up a complete heating plant. ■

■ ■ ■

FIGHTER 2020 can also be used together with most elec-tric boilers, oil boilers or similar.

FIGHTER 2020 can be controlled from a specially de-signed control unit, SMO 10. This connects and discon-nects additional heat and controls the changeover from room heating to domestic hot water heating.

The material has a long service life and is designed to withstand the Nordic outdoor conditions.

If the outdoor temperature drops to a level below the stop temperature all heating must then occur with exter-nal additioexter-nal heat.

(2)

Principle of operation

Maintenance

FIGHTER 2020 is equipped with control and monitoring equipment, however some exterior maintenance is still necessary.

Make regular checks throughout the year that the inlet grille is not clogged by leaves, snow or anything else. In addition, you should ensure during the colder times of the year that too much frost or ice does not form under FIGHTER 2020. Strong wind combined with extensive snowfall can cause the inlet and exhaust air grilles to become clogged. Make sure that there is no snow on the grilles.

If necessary the outer casing can be cleaned using a damp cloth. Care must be exercised so that the plastic cover is not scratched when cleaning. Avoid spraying water into the grille or the sides so that water penetrates into FIGHTER 2020.

Transport and storage

FIGHTER 2020 should be transported and stored vertically.

Installation and positioning

FIGHTER 2020 is placed on a firm base, preferable a con-crete foundation. FIGHTER 2020 should not be positioned next to sensitive rooms, for example, next to a bedroom. Also ensure that the placement of the heat pump does not inconvenience the neighbours.

Large amounts of condensation water as well as melt water from defrosting can be produced. Provide good drainage at the installation area and make sure water cannot run out onto paths or similar during periods that ice can form. Ideally condensation water is led off to a drain or similar. The distance between FIGHTER 2020 and the house wall must be at least 350 mm. Free space in front of and above FIGHTER 2020 must be at least one metre. FIGHTER 2020 must not be placed so that recirculation of outdoor air can occur. This causes lower output and impaired ef-ficiency.

Inspection of the installation

Current regulations require the heating installation to be inspected before it is commissioned. The inspection must be carried out by a suitably qualified person and should be documented. The above applies to closed heating systems. If the heat pump is replaced, the installation must be in-spected again.

Control

FIGHTER 2020 is equipped with an integrated electronic controller that handles all functions necessary for heat pump operations. Accordingly, defrosting, stop at max/min temperature, connection of the compressor heater as well as enabling the heater for the drip pan, monitoring of mo-tor protection and pressure switches are controlled. The number of starts and the operating time can also be read. The integrated controller is set during installation and can be used during a service. Under normal operation condi-tions the home owner does not need to have access to the controller.

FIGHTER 2020 has an integrated electronic return sensor that limits the return temperature.

FIGHTER 2020 is switched on/off via signals from other control equipment or a thermostat. If FIGHTER 2020 is to be controlled using the accessory SMO 10 or VVM 300 then relevant procedures are described in respective in-structions.

SMO and VVM communicate with FIGHTER 2020, which means that all settings and measurement values from FIGHTER 2020 can be adjusted and read on SMO/VVM.

Sound pressure levels

FIGHTER 2020 is usually placed next to a house wall, which gives a directed sound distribution that should be consid-ered. Accordingly, you should always attempt to find a placement on the side that faces the least sound sensitive neighbouring area.

The sound pressure levels are further affected by walls, bricks, differences in ground level, etc and should therefore only be seen as guide values.

FIGHTER 2020 works in summer with a low fan speed and at other times with a high fan speed.

VVM 300 (accessory)

FIGHTER 2020, together with VVM 300, creates a complete heating and hot water unit. VVM 300 is equipped with a control box that currently makes it the most economi-cal operator, regarding both for the integrated immer-sion heaters (max 13.5 kW) and compressor operation in FIGHTER 2020.

VVM 300 comes complete with an automatic by-pass, three way valve, circulation pump, speed controlled charge pump and safety equipment. With VVM 300, pool heating is possible as well as an extra shunt group, i.e. two heating systems with different flow temperatures.

VVM 300 is designed for simple connection to FIGHTER 2020-8 and -10.

SMO 10 (accessory)

SMO 10 is an intelligent control module that, together with, Fighter 2020 and existing heating and hot water equipment, creates a complete unit. SMO 10 manages compressor operation in FIGHTER 2020 and, if necessary, the additional power from any type of existing equipment that may be required. For SMO 10 dockings see www.nibe.se/dockning.

SMO 10 also manages automatic by-passes, load guards, circulation pumps, three way valves and sensors. With SMO10, pool heating is possible as well as an extra shunt group, i.e. two heating systems with different flow tem-peratures.

Hot water control VST 11,

VST 20 (accessory)

This accessory allows the heat pump FIGHTER 2020 to prioritise hot water charging on systems with floating condensing. This also requires a hot water accumulator, for example, NIBE VPA as well as a thermostat. When the hot water sensor for hot water temperature is connected, the control system is automatically activated for the charging functions. When there is a demand for hot water, the heat pump gives this priority and devotes its entire output to water heating. No room heat is produced in this mode.

Pipe installation

Pipe installation must be carried out in accordance with current norms and directives.

FIGHTER 2020 works up to a return temperature of ap-proximately 50 °C and an outgoing temperature from the heat pump of approximately 58 °C. When FIGHTER 2020 is not equipped with shutoff valves on the water side these must be fitted to facilitate future service.

Pipe connection

(heating medium)

FIGHTER 2020 can be connected to the heating system see the section “Docking” or according to one of the system solutions that can be downloaded from NIBE’s website www.nibe.se/docking.

The heat pump must be vented by the upper connection (70, VB-out) using the venting nipple on the enclosed flexible hose. The supplied particle filter must be installed before the inlet, i.e. the lower connection (71, VB-in) on FIGHTER 2020. All outdoor pipes must be thermally insulated with at least 19 mm thick pipe insulation. The charge pump must be operational, even if FIGHTER 2020 is not running, to prevent damage due to freezing. Alternatively, the heat pump is connected to an intermediate circuit with a heat exchanger, pump and water with anti-freeze. Shutoff and drain valves are fitted so that FIGHTER 2020 can be emptied in the event of pro-longed power failures.

The supplied flexible hoses act as vibration dampers. The flexible hoses are fitted so a slight bend is created, thus act-ing as vibration dampact-ing.
