25th Anniversary

Message from the President

Dear WNA APN Forum members, advanced practice nur

se colleagues, students and friends,

Welcome to the 25th Annual Pharmacology & Clinical Update sponsor ed by the Wisconsin Nurses Association Advanced Pr

actice Nurse Forum! This year marks the historic anniversary of the fir

st annual educational conference of the WNA Nurse Practitioner Council held in 1986 at the Stevens Point Sentry World Sports Center. That first conference (with approximately 30 attendees) was organized by a sm

all group of APNs who were committed to the idea of working together to pr

ovide high quality continuing education and pharmacology credits in

Wisconsin. This began the long tradition we are celebrating this year

. The annual conference brings content experts fr

om all areas of clinical practice for several days of intense learning opportunities. Conf

erence participants are able to reconnect with classm

ates, educators, and mentors and network with professional colleagues old and ne

w. The conference provides valuable updates in state and national pr

actice, legislative and policy issues. The goal of the planning committee each y

ear is to challenge and inspire you, refresh and support you, and encourage y

ou to go back to your practice settings with some new ideas to better car

e for yourself, your patients and their families.

The key to the success of the Annual Pharmacology and Clinical Update is the bond we share through the Wisconsin Nur

ses Association. For 101 years WNA has been the professional voice for registered nurses in W

isconsin. It was WNA members who formed a special inter

est group called the NP Council (the precursor to the APN Forum) in 1976. It w

as WNA that provided the framework and support for early efforts to or

ganize and work together on common goals, moving our profession forw

ard. And it’s been our membership in WNA which allows us to work with our colleagues to do mor

e

together than we could ever do alone.

The Annual Pharmacology and Clinical Update is an example of the synergistic effort of WNA members and staff, becoming the lar

gest annual nursing conference in the state, attracting almost 600 r

egistrants and 60 exhibitors. Through 12 professional skills workshops

, and 35 course offerings in five clinical tracks- Pediatrics, Women’s Health,

Adult Health- Acute Care, Adult Health-Primary Care, and Psychiatry—par

ticipants can earn up to 13.75 contact hours.

I’m excited to welcome you to the Monona Terr

ace and Convention Center for our historic 25th Annual Pharmacology and Clinical Update!

Mary Beck Metzger, MSN, FNP-BC, APNP Family Nurse Practitioner
