Stewardship is recognizing that everything we have is a gift from God, taking time to be grateful for those gifts, and returning a portion of those gifts to God – understanding that what God gave us He expected us to share.
I hope all of us take the time to really read through our bulletin this week; I hope we mark the upcoming dates on our calendars of the different events we as a parish are planning. It is inspiring to see our parish community striving “to proclaim and share the Good News of Jesus Christ within our community and beyond, through our liturgies and ministries” during these drawn-out pandemic times. Our youth ministry just held a very successful Luke 18 retreat last weekend; our parish mission is coming up next month before the beginning of Lent; we are looking forward to (hopefully!) having our parish picnic this June. There are lots of things going on here at our parish! We are #StSimonStrong!
Yet, there are things that were part of our parish life before the pandemic that are in danger of going away.
One of them is the Madonna Guild, the women’s club for our parish. No one has stepped forward to take the leadership positions within this group, and if no one does soon, we will have to make plans to indefinitely suspend this parish ministry. Another community-building event that is in danger is our fish fry; we need a new person who can follow in the footsteps of “the cod mother”, Erin Lawrence. If no one comes forward after this year, our fish fry will be no more.
Maybe the Lord is calling you, as He did Samuel in our scripture readings this past week (1 Samuel 3:1-20).
Where can you respond, as Samuel did, “Here I am Lord, I come to do your will.”
Have a healthy and holy week!
St. Simon the Apostle pray for us!
Sincerely, Fr. Brad
Monday, January 17th is Martin Luther King Day.
There is only one Mass on this day at 9a.m.
The Parish Office, School, and PSR, will be closed on Monday for the holiday.
various ways it has affected my day to day life, it is hard to look past the difficulties it has presented, and look forward to 2022 full of hope and idealism as I normally would at the beginning of a new year. Even as I write this, if I am being truly honest with myself, I feel somewhat melancholy and am trying with a lot of effort, to muster up the positivity and enthusiasm I normally feel as I look forward to the future and what a new year might hold.
Maybe some of you feel the same. One of the things I’ve learned in my life is that you can’t run from your negative feelings forever. If you do, they will catch up with you in ways that affect your health, your relationships and your ability to live a happy life.
In fact, I’ve found it is always better to face unsettling, negative feelings head on, acknowledge them and give them a voice. Once I’ve done that, they usually fade away on their own and I’m finally able to move on.
That being said, I’ve decided to give my feelings about 2021 a written voice, and put them down on paper this year. Hopefully, it will allow me to move forward into 2022 with a clearer, better vision of what I’ve learned, who I am right now and what I hope to become. I hope and pray that you give yourself permission to acknowledge and accept all that this year has brought into your life, in order to make room for more hope and positive personal action in 2022.
Questions to discuss;
• What are the things that have been difficult this year?
• What are the things that give me hope for the new year?
• My goals for 2022 include

St. Vincent De Paul Society:
Second Sunday in Ordinary Time
In the Gospel today, at the wedding feast in Cana, Jesus reveals himself to his disciples and they began to believe in him. Everyday, God also gives us signs of his love and so we also can respond in faith and trust.
Your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul becomes a sign of God’s love to those who are suffering, and you give them reason to believe and to trust.
Names in Bold type are new this week.

As we approach the 49th anniversary next week of the Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, we continue to pray for the right to life from conception to natural death. There are many good videos and audios on the FORMED platform. A 2019 movie called “Unplanned”
tells the true story of former Planned Parenthood director Abby Johnson. FORMED has a 25 minute “behind the scenes” video of the making of this powerful movie. See this and more on the FORMED platform.

Stewardship - Community Outreach:
This year we will again be allowed to bring homemade desserts. We know this was a favorite of many people in the past, so if you like to bake.. we can help you with that.
Also for this year, we are looking for a volunteer who would like to come to each event for a short time, snap some pictures, and then do the bulletin/website update each month. Let us know if you have this skill and are willing to share it.
As always, there is no age requirement for this service event, as we have jobs for kindergarteners all the way to senior citizens.
And finally, should you have any blankets or clothing that you are no longer in need of, let us know. Tables are set up in the back of the hall, where we serve dinner, for the patrons to browse and take items they may need. Items like men’s pants, t-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, gloves, and blankets are in most need.
