NAVAL UNIT NCC REPORT 2016-17

VISION

Empower volunteer youth to become potential leaders and responsible citizens of the country

MISSION

To develop leadership and character qualities, mould discipline and nurture social integration and cohesion through multi-faceted programmes conducted in a military environment

Aims of NCC

 Developing character, camaraderie, discipline, a secular outlook, the spirit of adventure and ideals of selfless service amongst young citizens.

 Creating a pool of organized, trained and motivated youth with leadership qualities in all walks of life, who will serve the nation regardless of which career they choose.

 Provide an environment conducive to motivating young Indians to choose the Armed forces as a career.

It is my privilege to place before you a brief report of the activities and achievements of NCC cadets, Sree Narayana College, Kollam for the period 2016-2017. This report would enable us to make a self assessment of the achievements and drawbacks of the functioning of Naval Unit NCC our college during 2016-2017.

The NCC activity for the academic year started with the Enrollment of First Year Degree students. The strength of our unit is 50. Enrollment was on 9 August 2016. Prior to the selection process, a brief overview was given to get a general idea about Naval NCC activities. Out of 98 students who were interested to join NCC, 18 students were

enrolled (11 SDs and 7 SWs). Cadets were selected based on good academic record, physical fitness test, swimming test and genuine interest to join NCC.

After the selection of first year cadets, NCC parade started on 1 October 2016 with a total strength of 50 cadets. This year a total 17 parades were conducted. In addition to drill training, cadets were given training on NCC service subjects like, NCC Organization, leadership, health and hygiene, semaphore, boat pulling, ship modeling, firing, etc.

During this year the cadets attended the following training camps.

 As part of the International Yoga Day, all cadets of our unit attended the programme conducted at College Campus on 21 June 2016.

 Cadets participated in the Independence Day celebrations organized at 3(k) Naval Unit NCC.

 Cadets Participated in Swatch Bharat Programme on 15 August 2016

 Six First year cadets and 16 second Year and 14 Final Year cadets attended Annual Training Camp (ATC) from 9 September 2016 to 18 September 2016 at Krist Raj School, Kollam.

 Six Cadets attended IGC 2016 at Krist Raj School from 9 September 2016 to 14 September 2016.

 Three Cadets attended AINSC 2016 held at Karwar from 6 October 2016 to 17 October 2016

 Three cadets voluntarily attended Workshop on 22 July and 17 August 2016 Palliative care and offered to spare their time for palliative care service.

 As part of the NCC Day celebration, 13 SD Cadets and 05 SW cadets of our unit participated in NCC Marathone organized by Kollam Group on 25 November 2016 and Nibin A. Kumar, I B.A. English won II position in SD wing and Sruthy Prasad,

I PCA won the I Position and Ayana Anilkumar, I B.Sc. Physics won the III position in the Marathone.

 Athul C. Nair, II B.A. English, II B.Com and Reshma Nath R., III B.A. Hindi Attended All India Nau Sainik Camp 2016 (AINSC 2016) from 6 to 17 October 2016, at Karvar, Karnataka.

 As Part of the NAAC Peer Team Visit, Our Cadets given Guard of Honor to Peer Team on 7 November 2016.

 Sumitha M., II B.Com attended National Integration camp II held at Patna from 17 November to 26 November 2016.

 Subin John, II B.A. English attended the CATC held at SMHSS, Patharam from 8 September to 18 September 2016.

 Ananthapadmanabhan G.K., II B.Sc. Zoology participated in National Integration Camp I held at Alappuzha from 10 September to 21 September 2016.

 Nithin V., II B.Sc. Chemistry participated in National Integration Camp II held at Kozhikode from 1 December to 12 December 2016.

 Subin John, II B.A. English attended the CATC cum Pre – RDC I at CRPF, Pallippuram from 4 November to 13 November 2016.

 Reshma Nath R., III B.A., Hindi attended All India Annual Training Camp for SW Cadets held at Indian Naval Academy, Ezhimala, Kannur from 14 Jauary to 25 January 2017.

 Subisha B.S., III B.A. English, Attended Republic Day Parade at Delhi From 1 January to 29 January 2017.

This Academic year 13 and 17 cadets of this unit appeared for NCC “B” and “C’

certificate examination and 11 and 14 cadets passed the Examinations respectively.
