Introduction
The University of South Wales offers all enrolled students the use of a free personal e-mail account which up until now has only been available via Unilife, but can now be accessed using your mobile device.
Your e-mail account includes a calendar, notes and an address book to organise and store your contacts, and provides more than 30Gb of storage space.
Step 1/1 - Setting Up Your Apple Macintosh device
To use your University email on your Apple Macintosh device, you first need to configure the device to connect to the University email servers.
As the University student email is run by Google, configuring the University email system is similar to setting up a Gmail account.
The example pictures in the following pages are Macintosh OS X (v10.7.3), but can be easily configured for

On your OS X computer, locate and load up the ‘Mail’ application.
You will now be prompted to enter your full name, your University email address, and your current University password, select ‘Continue’ to proceed.
Upon selecting ‘Continue’, the mail application will search for mail servers associated with your University email address.

You will now be prompted to enter the incoming mailserver details, please enter the following information.
Account type: IMAP
Description: UOSW Email (or something similar) Incoming mail server: imap.gmail.com
Username: Enter your University email address (i.e:
Password: Enter your current University password.
Select ‘Continue’ to proceed.

You will now be prompted to enter the outgoing mailserver details, please enter the following information.
Description: UOSW Email (or something similar) Outgoing mail server: smtp.gmail.com
Use Authentication: Place ‘Tick’ in box
Username: Enter your University email address (i.e:
Password: Enter your current University password.
Select ‘Continue’ to proceed.

An account summary will now be shown, please check all details to confirm they are correct.
Select ‘Create’ to proceed. Your University email is now configured on your Apple Macintosh, the mail application will now synchronise and retreive your email from the server.
You can now send / receive University email on your Apple Macintosh device.
For users who have devices other than iOS, Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile, orMicrosoft Windows, the University email IMAP settings are as follows.
