They meet Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) Level II Competencies, as required to prepare students to write an MCFD exam. The student then receives delegation status to be eligible to participate in a fourth year practicum in child protection.

Langara College Social Services

Worker Certificate –

Coordinated Diploma The certificate is awarded to students who successfully complete the two four-month terms and subsequent five-week block practicum.

A Co-ordinated Social Service Worker Diploma is awarded to students who have also completed an additional 30 credits of academic studies, and an additional 10 courses (minimum 30 Langara credits) of Arts and Science courses. At least six credit hours from the offerings of the English Department must be completed. If you have a Langara College certificate, you may transfer in the 10 courses (minimum 30 Langara credits) of Arts and Science courses from another institution provided they were earned before the completion of your certificate. The last 50% of your studies must be completed at Langara.

Preference is given to candidates who are at least 21 years of age Northern Lights

Victoria Social Work Bachelors - Masters Offered through School of Social Work.

Bachelors program is accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work. Bachelors students can specialize in Child Welfare or First Nations or First Nations Child Welfare. Bachelors is also offered through Distance Ed.

Admission to Bachelors program requires completion of the first two years (30 units) of an undergraduate program at the University of Victoria, or the equivalent credits and standing at another university or community college. Applicants must have a minimum grade point average of 3.5 out of 9.0 on UVic scale (between C+ and B -) on their last 12 transferable units.

Bachelors students complete two field practice placements, one in third year and one in fourth year.

Field practica occur in a wide range of government and private agencies and small, non-profit

societies.

Candidates should have at least two years of post-baccalaureate professional experience.

Northern BC Social Work Bachelors – Masters The focus of the BSW is oriented towards social work in northern and remote areas, First Nations, women and the human services, and community practice and research. Accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work (CASSW)

BSW will normally consist of two years of general university studies (60 credit hours) and two years of professional social work courses (60 credit hours). The BSW is articulated with recognized Social Services programs in Northern British Columbia

University of BC Social Work Bachelor – Master The School of Work & Family Studies delivers a single, integrated BSW program which can be completed in two years on a full-time basis, or in three years on a part-time basis. The curriculum includes courses on theory, policy research and practice.

of Fraser Valley Social Services Diploma – Diploma with First Nations Option

Similar to the Social Services Diploma, the First Nations Option program prepares aboriginal students, or those with strong ties to aboriginal communities, to work with First Nations people both on and off reserves.

Diploma programs provide students with employment-related skills while at the same time allowing them to earn up to one and a half years of credit towards a BSW at UCFV

UCFV Bachelor of Social Work program is a candidate for Accreditation with the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work.

of the Cariboo Bachelor Work course, during the first semester (September - December). During the next two semesters (January - May) there are more specific courses for the specialty, and two more field work- experiences.

There is a ‘ladder’ from the Social Service certificate into the Bachelor of Social Work degree at UCC.

The degree offers an Interior B.C. perspective on social work careers, built on the base of a broad liberal arts education. BSW is accredited by The Canadian Association of Schools and Social Work.

Bachelor offers Child Welfare Specialization designation.

of Fraser Valley Substance Abuse Counselling

Certificate -

Diploma One-year post-graduate certificate is offered in partnership with the Continuing Education Department for people already holding certificates, diplomas, and degrees in related fields.

This part-time (nine month) program provides training for professionals working in the fields of addictions, human services, social work, education, health, and corrections.

Diploma students must complete two practica, one in the first year and another in the second. Students can also challenge one of the practica based on prior volunteer or work experience.

University of BC Bachelor of Arts Family Studies Major or Minor

This as an academic program open to students registered in the Faculty of Arts. The Bachelor of Arts Family Studies Major/Minor examines the North American family and its alternatives in a multidisciplinary, life span perspective. The major allows you to specialize in family studies as a single field of study. It may lead to graduate study if a sufficiently high average is obtained.

Malaspina

University College Child and Youth Care First Nations

Diploma The program reflects the needs of First Nations peoples and is continually developing with involvement from the First Nations communities of the Cowichan area, as well as from the First Nations students who bring the teachings of their communities into the program.

Students who successfully complete the two-year program, including 300 hours of practicum, will be eligible for Malaspina’s Diploma in Child and Youth Care. This program is referred to as a “ladder” program.

Students exiting the program with a CYC diploma may choose to apply their earned credits toward a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Youth Care at Malaspina University-College, the University College of the Fraser Valley, or the University of Victoria.

Institute of Technology

Social Work Degree Program emphasizes the knowledge and skills relevant to First Nations and mainstream individuals, families and communities. NVIT works to increase students' knowledge and skills based on First Nations culture, values, and philosophy. Elders are a valued part of program.

Preference will be given to students who identify themselves as being of Aboriginal origin. Some seats may be available to non-Aboriginal students.

Students in Indian Social Work are, with few exceptions, required to take the same classes during the first year of study. Before the beginning of the second year, they may decide whether to continue in either the Certificate or Degree program. Classes taken toward a Certificate are also applicable to the Degree program.

The School of Indian Social Work working with the Indian Child and Family Services to develop a degree in social work with a concentration on Child Welfare.

The School has signed a memorandum of understanding with the (3) Universities: Calgary, Regina and Manitoba to work collaboratively on child welfare issues.

They are also looking at a combination of a health and social development, social work degree at some point in time.

Certificate Aims to prepare Aboriginals for social work practice in their own communities. In addition to the general requirements, applicants must provide two (2) letters of recommendation from their aboriginal community.

McGill University Northern Social Work Practice

Certificate This 10 course (30 credit) Certificate program offered by the Centre for Continuing Education on behalf of the School of Social Work

Available only in the North and is for Inuit community workers employed by Nouveau Québec. The purpose of the program is to prepare Inuit community workers for social work practice within their communities.

Yukon College Northern Social Work Practice

Work Offered in cooperation with the Yukon First Nations, and the University of Regina, a four-year program leading to the Bachelor of Social Work degree. The degree is granted by the University of Regina.

Cultural Camp: This 9-credit hours required course is a unique feature of the program. The course provides students with an opportunity to learn about traditional First Nations values, philosophy, spirituality and ceremonies through participation in a 10-day experiential camp under the direction of Yukon First Nations Elders. Cultural camp is offered every two years.

Cambrian College Native Child and Family Worker (NCFW)

Diploma of

Applied Arts Primarily a social service program - unique blend of Western academic theory and practice with that of traditional knowledge and its application sets the Native Child and Family Worker Program apart from other social service programs. The third and fifth semesters will be field placements.

Cambrian College Native Community Worker – Healing and Wellness (MBNA)

Diploma Program will promote an integrated approach to healing and wellness strategies in its interdisciplinary approach including incorporating strategies for reducing family violence. This worker will be trained in an integrated approach to identify physical, mental, emotional and spiritual needs of the individual, the family and the community in consultation with related community workers

Lakehead

University Social Work Honours Bachelor Masters with Specialization in Gerontology

Lakehead offers two different Honours Bachelor's degree (HBSW) programs as well as a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree. The four-year HBSW program is designed to combine a liberal arts education with a professional education. The One-year HBSW program is designed for those students who have completed the requirements of an approved Bachelor's degree other than social work and related practice experience.

Both programs are offered on a full-time and a part-time basis. The MSW and the HBSW courses are available and designed for full and part-time studies through spring and summer, fall and winter.

Both Bachelors and Masters Degrees are accredited by the Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work.

NorQuest College Social Work Diploma The First Nations Social Work Diploma program from Maskwacîs Cultural College (MCC) is offered at NorQuest College in Edmonton. This two-year diploma program is designed to prepare generalist social work practitioners. Using First Nations traditions and values, you will learn how to establish respectful and effective relationships with individuals, groups, and communities

* educated in the areas of traditional First Nations helping practices, Cree Language, Cree culture, social work theory, counselling methods, crisis intervention, and social advocacy

Transferrable to the University of Calgary "two years for two years." Graduates are eligible for registration in

the Alberta College of Social Workers.
