The word from Father Arek . . .

In November, in a very special way, we pray for the Souls in Purgatory: “All who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified, are indeed assured of their eternal salvation; but after death they undergo purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven … the Church gives the name Purgatory to this final purification…” ( Catechism of the Catholic Church #1030-31 ). The Souls in Purgatory experience the love of God, a desire to see Him, and the joy of knowing they will have that desire ful- filled. The Holy Souls in Purgatory are able to benefit from our prayers and sacrifices offered on their behalf. Many prayers and devotions are dedicated to the “Poor Souls in Purgatory,” and our sacrifices on their behalf may hasten their entrance into Heaven. Today’s Liturgy is espe- cially devoted to this reality. (Likewise, those in Purgatory are able to intercede for us by offering their own suffering for our worthy inten- tions.) We can help the Souls in Purgatory in many ways, but having Mass offered for the soul of a departed loved one is the greatest help we can give them because Mass, being the sacrifice of Jesus offered to the Father, is the greatest prayer we know of. (If you would like a Mass said for your loved one, please visit our Parish Office.)

Throughout the month of November, we pray at every Mass for our loved ones whose names are written on All Souls envelopes. We pray for all those who have died, the Holy Souls in Purgatory, as we feel their presence in our hearts. Through our prayers, we affirm our belief, “in one God, the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible [and we] look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come” (The Nicene Creed). The All Souls envelopes are located on the table in the back of Church and at the Welcome Center in the vestibule.

The Feast of All Souls

On Saturday, November 2

nd

we celebrate the Feast of All Souls. This day has a significant meaning for most of us, because it is a day on which we remember all of the Holy Souls, all of those dear people who have been woven into our lives – who have passed from this world to the next. That day we put faces and names on those we honor and for whom we pray; and by that very fact and its connection to our lives, our celebration can bring sadness to our lives. It is never easy to let go of those whom we love. There is never a right time or reason. Because of that reality, it is essential that we see this day as the heart and substance of our Catholic faith. That day we also pray to God for our loved ones who are in a process of transition from this life to heaven, a process called Purgatory.

On Saturday evening at 7:00 PM, we will be celebrat-

ing the Feast of All Souls. During this Mass we will

be praying for all the faithful departed, and especially

we will remember all our parishioners who passed

away within the last year. What a wonderful opportunity to pray for your

loved ones. Will you join us and offer this highest form of prayer for

those who passed away to eternity?

Veteran’s Day

On Monday, November 4

th

, we will be honoring our veterans, all those worthy men and women who gave their best when they were called upon to serve and protect our country. That evening, at 6:15 PM, our Religious Education children will raise a new flag in honor of John T. Mooney, World War II Honoree, who served in the U.S. Army. John is the father of our parishioner, Pamela Dryden. His ac- tivities during the War were that he served with Troop B, 42

nd

Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron, 2

nd

Armored Cavalry Division, and he also partici- pated in the Invasion of Normandy. For the inju- ries he sustained during that battle, John was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. He was also awarded three overseas service bars, the American Campaign Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with one Silver Star, the Good Conduct Medal and the WW II Victory Medal for his participation in three other campaigns.

John was also honored by the Regional Counsel of Normandy with the Jubilee De La Liberte Medal.

He passed away in 2005.

The flags we fly at Incarnation are the me- morial funeral flags that have draped the coffins and been presented to families of deceased veterans. These flags have been donated to us to be flown in memory of the de- ceased person. They usually last about six months before they are too faded and tattered to be flown any longer. We ceremoniously lower the old flag and raise the new one, praying for those in whose memory they fly. The old flag is then properly dis- posed of. Anyone wishing to donate a memorial flag from a family member’s funeral is welcome to do so. To donate a flag, contact Carol at the Parish Office.

Queen of Hearts

We would like to start a NEW Queen of Hearts Raf- fle soon, however, we need volunteers to help in or- der to continue this Parish fundraiser. Are you available for a few hours in the evening on the day of the raffle drawing (unsure which day of the week that will be) and would you like to help administer the actual drawing? Please contact my Business Manager, Colette, by calling the Parish Office. I count on your generosity and support. Thank you!

In Christ and His Blessed Mother,

Father Arek

“If you want peace, work for justice.” — Pope Paul VI

Focus on climate change again? Yes, major changes in weather and climate are occurring and will con#n- ue to occur un#l we make significant changes in our ac#ons which impact the environment. The Paris Agreement is a commitment to make significant changes, but the current U.S. administra#on, with the agreement of its suppor#ng party, is refusing to take part. In response, 46 U.S. Senators have cosponsored the Interna#onal Climate Accountability Act (S.1743).

This is legisla#on which will require the Administra-

THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM Incarnation rejoices in the incorporation of new members into the Body of Christ through the Sacrament of Baptism.

Please come into the Parish Office during business hours to schedule your child's baptism. Parents are to attend a manda- tory Baptismal Preparation Class prior to Baptism. The Sacrament of Baptism for infants is celebrated on the first and third Sunday of every month (except Lent) at 12:30PM in the Church.

Please remember to include Incarnation in your will.

THE SACRAMENT OF MATRIMONY Incarnation helps couples prepare not only for their wedding day, but the lifelong commit- ment of living a Christian marriage. Parish- ioners of Incarnation who are baptized and free to marry in the Catholic Church may cele- brate their marriage at our Parish. Interested couples seeking marriage should contact one of the parish priests at least six months prior to their intended date of marriage.

MINISTRY OF CARE
