Second-in-command to the Chief Probation Officer in the administration and management of the United States Probation Office, District of Colorado. Responsibilities include: maintaining a thorough knowledge of national, statutory, policies, procedures, and administrative practices specific to pretrial services, presentence investigations, and supervision of federal offenders. Providing technical assistance to the Chief Probation Officer, Supervising Probation Officers, Senior Probation Officers, line officers, the court and other judicial personnel regarding offender programs and services. Oversight of employee supervision, strategic planning, financial management including contract proposals and monitoring, personnel management, agency operations and general administrative tasks. Provided ongoing training for supervisors, officers and staff. Establishing and maintaining cooperative relationships with all components of the criminal justice system to include federal, state, and local law enforcement, correctional and social service agencies. Represent department at conferences, seminars, meetings, media coverage, and other federal, state and local entities. Review of all hire recommendations and participation in the interviewing and selection of employees. Assisted in after hours coverage of electronic monitoring of offenders. Provide direction, training and evaluation of the work performed by the Supervising Probation Officers. The Probation Office served five United States District Court Judges, two Senior United States District Court Judges, and five United States Magistrate Judges. The Probation Department employs a total of 74 probation officers and support staff. Retired December 29, 2000.

Responsible for the supervision and investigation of the District’s special offender caseload, including large scale and sophisticated white collar criminals, outlaw motorcycle and gang members, organized crime offenders, including offenders under special jurisdiction of the United States Marshal Service and other cases of high notoriety, which posed a unique threat to the public safety. Served as in-house authority for staff and the court regarding the investigation and supervision of offenders in the District’s special offender category. Served as lead officer in conducting complex presentence investigations into the history and background, the prior behavior patterns, and the character and make up of offenders. Supervised a caseload of 35-40 special offender cases. Assisted in the development of sentencing guideline worksheets for organizational defendants.

Conducted presentence investigation reports on defendants who plead guilty or were convicted of federal offenses. Supervised caseload of 55-60 offenders by ensuring public safety through the monitoring and supervision of offenders conditionally released by the Court, the U.S. Parole Commission, or military authorities. Served as Spanish interpreter for non-English speaking offenders. Conducted prerelease investigations for the Bureau of Prisons.
