1.3 Kit Description
The c-Class enclosure cable management bracket described in this manual is designed to align and support the InfiniBand cables that lead from an HP c-Class InfiniBand switch module. For example, the InfiniBand cables that run from a HP c-Class switch module mounted in the rear of the HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure to another switch, or a similar interconnect device. The kit provides strain relief for the cables connected to the individual InfiniBand interconnect ports and ensures a good connection. It also ensures the correct bend radius for the cable and provides channels for cable routing and cable management. One cable management kit is required for each interconnect module bay system interconnect device.
NOTE: The cable management bracket is designed to support 24 AWG (0.41 inch) diameter, 26 AWG (0.37 inch) diameter, and 28 AWG (0.33 inch) diameter QSFP InfiniBand cables. Consult the documentation supplied with your cluster before installing the brackets and routing the cables.

1.5 Required Resources
To install the HP cable management kit, you require the following resources:
• Tools:
Screwdriver, #2 (medium) Phillips
◦
◦
Cage-nut insertion tool (shipped with the rack) or a flat-headed screwdriver◦
Marker pen or masking tape◦
Diagonal cutting pliers• Resources: Cables of the type used by the HP BladeSystem c-Class InfiniBand switch.
1.6 Prerequisites
Before you begin to mount the bracket:
• Follow the usual cable-handling precautions for InfiniBand cables, see the InfiniBand switch manual that came with your switch.
• Ensure you know how to plug in the InfiniBand cables, as described in the InfiniBand switch manual that came with your switch.
• Read the rack installation instructions for the c-Class enclosure.
• Obtain the set of cabling tables required for your HP InfiniBand network. Important:
Do not secure the enclosure into the rack before you begin the bracket installation. You must be able to access the rear (inward) face of the rack columns.
2 Aligning the Bracket
Figure 2shows the correct orientation of the cable management bracket which you must install before connecting the cables to the InfiniBand switch module. During the cabling procedure, the bracket provides strain relief for the InfiniBand ports, and maintains the correct minimum cable bend radius.

The following list describes the callouts shown inFigure 2:
1. Mounting hook installed in one of the mounting holes in the rack's rear left column
2. Cable management bracket
Callout 1 shows the bracket's mounting hook installed in one of the square holes in the left rear rack column. The actual mounting locations for a bracket are relevant to the location of the c-Class enclosure in the rack, and must align with the InfiniBand switch installed in the c-Class enclosure.
Figure 3shows the relative mounting locations. Figure 3 Three Bracket Mounting Locations

The following list describes the callouts shown inFigure 3:
1. The U location that aligns with the top of the HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosure. Each c7000 enclosure is 10U high.
2. Mounting hook location (black square) and fastener location (circled square) for an InfiniBand switch installed in Interconnect Module Bays (IMB) 3 and 4
3. Mounting hook location (black square) and fastener location (circled square) for an InfiniBand switch installed in IMB 5 and 6
4. Mounting hook location (black square) and fastener location (circled square) for an InfiniBand switch installed in IMB 7 and 8
Use the following procedure to determine the actual mounting locations for brackets: 1. Determine which of the interconnect module bays contain the InfiniBand switch.
Note:
There might be more than one InfiniBand switch module in some configurations. 2. Determine the rack U location that aligns with the top of the c-Class enclosure. 3. Using a pen or masking tape, mark the mount locations defined inTable 2. Table 2 Bracket Mounting Locations

3 Installing the Cable Management Bracket
The location of the cable management bracket depends on the rack position occupied by the HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure. The InfiniBand switch might be installed in any or all of the interconnect module bays identified inTable 2.
3.1 Installing the Cable Management Bracket
Use the following procedure to install the HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure cable management bracket:
Caution:
When performing the installation procedure, extend only one c-Class enclosure no more than a few inches from the rack at any time. Ensure that the rack is stable before you begin the installation procedure.
Note:
One cable management kit is required for each InfiniBand switch installed in the rear of the c-Class enclosure.
1. Starting from the lowest bracket location, and using the fastener locations that you identified and marked inChapter 2, clip a cage nut into the back of each rear rack column.
2. Hook the bracket onto the square cutouts in the rack column.
3. Fasten the bracket to the rear rack columns by using two M6 pan-head screws and tighten them to the specified torque.
4. If more than one bracket is required, repeat Step 1.
5. Slide the c-Class enclosure back into the rack and secure it at the front of the rack as specified in the installation instructions for the enclosure.
6. If necessary, attach the second bracket once the first switch (lowest switch in the c7000 enclosure) is cabled and tie-wrapped.
Note:
HP recommends that you only install the cable management bracket for the lowest InfiniBand switch in the c-Class enclosure and complete the cable installation. Doing so makes it easier to install the releasable cable ties for each of the InfiniBand cables. Once the releasable cable ties are installed for the InfiniBand cables coming from the switch installed in the lowest interconnect module bay, you must install the next cable management bracket and releasable cable ties for the next InfiniBand switch. It is necessary to complete the installation for the lowest bracket first because there is not enough space between the two brackets to secure the releasable cable ties for the lower bracket when two or more brackets must be installed.
3.2 Installing the Releasable Cable Ties for the InfiniBand Cables
Figure 4shows the holes in the bracket that are used in the cable management bracket for an InfiniBand switch with 16 external uplink ports.

The following list describes the callouts shown inFigure 4: 1. Left rear rack column
2. 16 secured InfiniBand cables
3. One of the 16 releasable cable ties (completed assembly for 16-port switch shown) Important:
You must install the HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure cable management bracket to provide proper strain relief for the InfiniBand cables.
To install the InfiniBand cables and secure them with the releasable cable ties, follow these steps: 1. Install the push-button mounts by pressing them upward into each hole in the cable management
bracket (see callout 4 inFigure 1).
2. Cable the lower InfiniBand switch first, as described in the hardware installation guide for the switch.
3. To secure an InfiniBand cable (callout 1 inFigure 5) to the cable management bracket, slide the releasable cable tie through the push button mount and around the InfiniBand cable (see callout 2 inFigure 5) and through the releasable cable tie lock.
Figure 5 InfiniBand Cable Secured with a Releasable Cable Tie

2
Caution:
The releasable cable tie should only be hand tight. Do not use a cable tie installation tool and do not over tighten the releasable cable tie or it might damage the InfiniBand cable.
4. Leaving approximately 1/4 inch to 3/8 inch coming out of the buckle, clip the excess from the releasable cable tie. Use one of the clipped-off pieces of cable tie as a tightness gauge (see callout 1 inFigure 6) to check that there is room to allow the InfiniBand cable (callout 4 inFigure 6) to move freely in the releasable cable tie loop (callout 3 inFigure 6) that is secured to the cable management bracket (callout 2 inFigure 6) with a push button mount (not shown inFigure 6).

5. Repeat steps 4 and 5 to secure the remaining InfiniBand cables.
6. Route the InfiniBand cables to the side of the rack and secure them either upward or downward in the cable management plate. Be sure not to exceed the cable manufacturer’s recommended bend radius for each InfiniBand cable as you route them in the rack.
4 Removing InfiniBand Cables and Switches
This chapter describes the procedure to remove a damaged InfiniBand cable or InfiniBand switch for repair.
4.1 Removing a Damaged Cable From the c-Class Cable Management
Bracket
To remove a damaged cable, follow these steps:
1. Bring the HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure to an appropriate state for service as described in the HP BladeSystem c7000 Enclosure Maintenance and Service Guide on the HP website: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00714237/
c00714237.pdf
2. To release the InfiniBand cable from the releasable cable tie, use your finger or a small flat-headed screw driver to push down on the small tab inside the cable tie lock (see callout 1 inFigure 7).
Figure 7 Cable Tie Release Tab
1
Note:
The release tab is very small and might be difficult to reach with your finger. Use a small flat-headed screw driver to push the tab down to release the cable tie. Also, because there are several cables, removal of an InfiniBand cable in the middle portion of the switch might be difficult without the use of needle nose pliers and a small flat-headed screw driver. Be very
careful not to damage other InfiniBand cables while using pliers or a screw driver.
3. Remove the InfiniBand cable from the switch. To remove the InfiniBand cable, pull the release tab on the QSFP connector while using your other hand to remove the connector from the switch. For more information on how to remove an InfiniBand cable from the switch, see the
HP BLc QLogic 4X QDR InfiniBand Switch Installation Guide.
4.2 InfiniBand Switch Removal
Put the rack cabinet into a safe and stable state for component removal. You must ensure that you can reach the component easily and handle it safely.
To remove the InfiniBand switch, follow these steps:
1. Bring the HP BladeSystem c-Class enclosure to an appropriate state for service as described in the HP BladeSystem c7000 Enclosure Maintenance and Service Guide on the HP web site: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00714237/
c00714237.pdf
2. Remove all of the InfiniBand cables from the InfiniBand switch, but leave them secured in the cable management bracket.
3. Remove the cable management bracket from the rack's rear mounting rails.
4. Leave the cables secured in the cable management bracket and carefully set the bracket aside. Caution:
Do not bend the InfiniBand cables more than the minimum bend radius recommended by the cable manufacturer.
5. Push the blade handle release button to release the blade handle.
6. Open the blade handle and slide the switch all the way out of the HP BladeSystem c7000 enclosure.
