nsaldo Energia is Italy’s largest supplier, installer and service provider for

power generation plants and components and one of the world’s leading

players in the sector. It is a full-cycle, integrated operator, with the

capabili-ties to build turnkey power plants on green field sites using its own technology and

its own independent design, production, construction, commissioning and service

resources. Founded in Genoa in 1853, Ansaldo established itself right from the outset

as Italy’s leading mechanical engineering company, first working in the railway sector

and then manufacturing marine engines until the start of the twentieth century, when

it entered the power generation sector and built its first electrotechnical production

facility in Cornigliano, where the company made electrical equipment, dynamos and

other products.

Since then, the power sector has played a key role for Ansaldo, which over the years

has moved from steam-based power generation plants (from 1912) to gas turbines

(from 1992) and full technological independence since 2005.

At the present time, Ansaldo Energia is structured around its core business activities

of plants, components (gas turbines, steam turbines and generators), service work

and nuclear activities (through subsidiary company Ansaldo Nucleare).

Ansaldo Energia is also active in Distributed Generation with AnsaldoTurbec micro

gas turbines and in waste to Energy with Dry Anaerobic Digestion.

The breadth of its references, the quality, flexibility and efficiency of its products and,

most importantly, the commitment, experience and professionalism of its people have

made Ansaldo Energia a world-leading company with an enviable international

repu-tation. Ansaldo Energia currently employs about 3,300 people and has an installed

capacity of 184,000 MW in 90 countries.

Gas turbines

Ansaldo Energia began working in the gas turbine sector in 1991. In 2001, the 100th gas turbine built by Ansaldo Energia entered service and in 2005 the company gained full tech-nological independence. Since then it has concentrated all its efforts on creating leading edge products and solutions that satisfy the demanding requirements of an increasingly competitive market. To date, Ansaldo Energia has installed over 200 gas turbines with a capacity of over 38,000 MW, reporting more than 8 million equivalent operating hours and reliability higher than 98%. Ansaldo Energia gas turbines (E and F-class) can be used in all possible power generation applications, in open or combined cycle turnkey plants, in in-tegrated heat cycles for power blocks and as individual units. They are the result of a proprietary technology development process and have ratings in the range 75 to 310 MW. One of the points of strength of Ansaldo Energia is its custo-mization of turbines to satisfy the customer’s requirements and needs. In recent years innovative solutions and upgrades have been developed to reduce emissions drastically while guaranteeing the same reliability. Specifically, Ansaldo Ener-gia has developed a NOx emission reduction system based on the company’s VeLoNOx burner, which limits emissions to under 30 mg/Nm3 for all the gas turbine models it offers. Ansaldo Energia offers a comprehensive range of services and qualified personnel for the erection and/or supervision, start-up and testing of its gas turbines.

Ansaldo Energia service organization also provides world-wide technical assistance 24/7 to put customers in the best possible position to achieve optimum operation.

Ansaldo Energia has more than a century of experience de-signing, manufacturing and installing steam turbines. Since 1912, the company has installed over 700 steam tur-bines rated in excess of 100 GW.

Ansaldo Energia produces a broad range of 50 and 60 Hz reheat and non-reheat steam turbines rated from 40 to 1,000 MW (with reheat) for fossil fuel, combined cycle, nuclear and cogeneration plants.

The company also offers a comprehensive line of geothermal steam turbines rated 20 to 150 MW.

Dedicated R&D and service organizations provide custom-ers with ongoing assistance through constant product im-provements, combined with the traditional reliability and ro-bustness of Ansaldo Energia products: the result is a unique and balanced value package based on innovation and relia-bility.

(7)

Ansaldo Energia has been producing turbogenerators since the early 1920s, when production was focused almost ex-clusively on air-cooled designs.

Since 1950, about 500 generators rated 10 to 330 MVA have left the Ansaldo Energia factory for installation in every corner of the world. In the 1950s, Ansaldo Energia extended its pro-duction base to include hydrogen and hydrogen/water-cooled generators, building more than 200 units in the range 40 to 1220 MVA with a total capacity of over 100,000 MVA. Ansaldo Energia generators can be installed in combined cycle, steam, geothermal and nuclear plants, as well as in rotating synchronous compensators.

Ansaldo Energia turbogenerators combine proven design, manufacturing and commissioning skills with the company’s well known flexibility in matching customer needs with tai-lored solutions and customizations.

(8)

Ansaldo Energia has developed and provides service activi-ties for its own and third party gas turbines, steam turbines and generators, with maintenance propositions based on three concepts: Long Term Service Agreements covering the management of all maintenance activities, including spare parts and periodic overhauls; upgrade solutions for life cy-cle extension and to improve efficiency and environmental standards; and a one-stop shop package offering based on the OSP™ (Original Service Provider) concept. This service model combines the reliability and experience of an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) with the efficiency and flexi-bility of an Independent Service Provider.

On a joint basis with subsidiary companies Ansaldo Tho-massen (based in The Netherlands) and Ansaldo Thomas-sen Gulf (with its workshop in Abu Dhabi), Ansaldo Energia offers customers a single service interface for all machinery and power plants, independently of who supplies the com-ponents, in order to optimize costs, improve planning and reduce plant downtime.

Ansaldo Energia Service Solutions are designed to optimize asset management strategies, guarantee availability, prevent power plants from aging and deploy the latest upgrades and most environment friendly technologies.

(9)

Ansaldo Energia is a global supplier of turn-key power plants with a comprehensive offering of the most reliable and best performing solutions available today. It can deliver a broad range of products as a manufacturer of all the main power plant components, supplying entire plants as well as power blocks in both open and combined cycles.

In plant management, the key word for Ansaldo Energia is “flexibility”: design flexibility, which means having no pre-packaged solutions to impose on customers, but wor-king with them as partners right from the definition of objec-tives through to the implementation of the solution that best achieves them.

But also product flexibility, offering all the most efficient tech-nologies available today: single and/or combined cycle gas turbines, steam turbines and systems to generate power from renewable sources.

And finally plant flexibility, which means building highly effi-cient power plants that have low emissions even in partial load conditions, with careful consideration of environmental issues and also of the plant’s architecture, for perfect inte-gration in the natural setting.
