The American Head and Neck Society (AHNS) is pleased to invite you to the AHNS 9th International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer, which will be held July 16-20, 2016 in Seattle, Washington, USA.
The theme is Technology Transforming Head and Neck Cancer Care. The scientific program has been thoughtfully designed to bring together all disciplines related to the treatment of head and neck cancer. Our assembled group of renowned head and neck surgeons, radiologists and oncologists has identified key areas of interest and major topics for us to explore.
You will have a chance to participate in panels, instructional courses, professor lunches and tumor boards. We are certain you will find many topics of interest, and hope you will submit an abstract for presentation and discussion.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES
The conference is designed to facilitate discussion on “best practices” in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of head and neck cancer patients throughout the world. The participation of Medical Oncologists, Radiation Oncologists, Radiologists, Pathol-ogists and Head and Neck Surgeons will ensure educational interaction within and between specialties that can strengthen multi-disciplinary collaborative relationships. At the conclusion of the event, participants will be able to
A. Assess and apply therapeutic options for the head, neck and thyroid cancer patient in a multidisciplinary environment, including:
• Chemoradiotherapy immunotherapy, and how these treatments impact oncologic and functional outcomes of patients with advanced head and neck cancer
• Novel radiation delivery, and the benefits and drawbacks of methods such as Image Guided and Proton Therapy (IGRT)
• Emerging molecular-targeted agents: their efficacy and role in the treatment of cancers of the head and neck, including thyroid cancer
• Surgical treatments, including the impact of technological breakthroughs resulting in robotic surgery, image-guided treatment of skull base neoplasms, sentinel node mapping, new powered instrumentation and hemostatic devices as well as endoscopic approaches to the neck and the thyroid gland and new reconstructive approaches
B. Assess emerging research that has lead to better understanding of the pathogenesis of head and neck cancer and its treatment, including:
• New imaging breakthroughs for disease detection, pre-treatment staging, and assessment of treatment response
• High throughput laboratory approaches to analyze tumors and biofluids including whole genome sequencing, cDNA microrrays, array CGH, SNP arrays and integrative genomics
• The significance of human papillomavirus (HPV) elements and or antibodies in tumors and biofluids
• Pre-clinical evaluation of novel therapeutics
• Early detection of oral pre-maligancy, cancer and chemopreventative approaches • Newly discovered biomarkers and their utility in treatment selection
• In addition, attendees with research careers may also find new collaborators, develop new research protocols (including clinical trials), participate in and improve existing protocols and trials
C. Assess and apply the process, outcomes, and quality of delivering care to head and neck cancer patients, including:
• The value of treatment guidelines including the NCCN and ATA treatment guidelines in improving patient care
• How to measure patient-reported outcomes and maximize their utility • How to establish a surgical quality and performance monitoring program
• The importance of examining cost effectiveness when considering novel treatments • The Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) in head and neck cancer care • Incorporating quality measurements into trainee/medical student education • The burden of caring for H&N cancer patients in the developing and international
community
D. Recognize the vital role of nurses, speech language pathologists, audiologists, nutritionists, social workers, pain specialists, mental health practitioners, physical therapists, and dental oncologists in achieving maximal functional outcomes leading to increased interdisciplinary cooperation

All authors who wish to present papers for the AHNS 9th International Conference on Head and Neck Cancer may submit through a link on the AHNS website (www.ahns2016.org). Abstracts may be selected for either oral or poster presentations. Further details concerning abstract word length, charts/tables and other formatting instructions will be made available on our website. Authors will be able to designate their abstract for one of the following categories:

AHNS SPONSORED AWARDS
All authors are invited to compete for one of the following:
• Robert Maxwell Byers Award in the amount of $1,000 US for the best clinical research paper submitted to the
meeting.
• Best Resident Basic Science Research Paper in the amount of $500 US. Only residents in training can compete
for this award and must attest that he/she performed at least 80% of the work.
• Best Resident Clinical Paper in the amount of $500 US. Only residents in training can compete for this award
and must attest that he/she performed at least 80% of the work.
• Best Prevention and Early Detection Papers in the amount of $500 US for first place and $250 for second place.
Only abstracts selected for Podium Presentation will be eligible for awards. All authors who intend to compete for an award must notify AHNS of their intent at the time of their abstract submission by checking off the award for which they wish to compete. To be considered for the awards noted above, you must also submit a completed
manuscript to the AHNS Office by SUNDAY, MAY 1, 2016. Only previously unpublished manuscripts
will be considered for awards.
