As I sit here one week into June, I’m astounded at how quickly this successful school year flew by. The seniors ended the year strong during graduation, with perfect weather and a meaningful ceremony that sent them off in style.

And now, even though it’s summer, we are busy preparing for the 2015-16 school year. Please join me in welcoming some new staff members! Tasman Nicolodi will join our comprehensive counseling team, and Melanie Anvari will fill the role of Intervention Counselor. Please note that we have adjusted our alphabet split

in counseling: Mrs. Gieck will now work with students whose last names begin with letters A-D;

Mrs. Orchard with E-K; Mr. Stordahl with L-Rh and Mrs. Nicolodi with Ri-Z. Additionally, let’s welcome new Assistant Principal Mr. Jessup McGregor; choir teacher Mrs. Angelika Dyadchenko; science teachers

Ms. Elizabeth Henderson and Mr. Nathan Hedstrom; Spanish teachers Mr. Michael Trout and Mr. Gerardo Solano; and English teacher Mrs. Rachel Guerra.

On behalf of our entire school community I want to say congratulations to you and your kids! Our school was chosen by the Campaign for Business and Education Excellence (CBEE) as a 2014 Honor Roll recipient! This campaign is known for its extensive and rigorous analysis of every public school throughout California. Our school stood out among the thousands because of our success to get our students to higher levels of achievement and beyond.

Each year, CBEE presents this award to individual schools and to school districts that have excelled in raising

student achievement, closing achievement gaps and improving the educational system for all students.This is

a testament to the hard work of our entire school community! Thanks to the hard work of the students and teachers here at Granite Bay High School, we are being recognized. We did not apply for this award (they found us!) and it is a great honor to have been chosen. We will be featured on the CBEE website and a banner has been designed just for us to hang proudly at our school!

I am really looking forward to next year—let’s make it a great one!
