Jonathan Armstrong, Partner

Jonathan Armstrong qualified as a solicitor in the UK in 1991 and has specialised in technology law since 1996. The 2007 Legal Experts Report again featured Jonathan as one of the UK’s leading experts in the field. Jonathan’s practice is international and he currently serves as Vice-Chair of the International Law and Practice Section of the New York State Bar Association.

Jonathan is one of the co-authors of the LexisNexis definitive work on technology law ‘Managing Risk: Technology & Communications’. He has also written many articles on technology and governance including: ‘The Companies Act 1985 and the Internet’ On Line In Print 1998; ‘Internet Security’ International Journal of e-Business Strategy Management 2001; ‘Who Steals My Name’ ACC Docket June 2006. Jonathan is a Fellow of The Chartered Institute of Marketing (FCIM) and is a member of the following organisations:, the IBA, the National Computing Centre Legal Panel, New York State Bar Association. He previously served on the Advisory Board of the Georgetown University Advanced Institute on Electronic Commerce, Washington DC.

Jonathan’s practice includes counselling multinational companies on electronic corporate

governance, their online reputation and on pan-European privacy policies. He is currently leading a project for a Fortune 250 company on data registrations throughout EMEA and is currently advising another six Fortune 250 organisations on their privacy and security policy throughout Europe. He spoke in 2006 in Shanghai, New York, Tampa and Wilmington to the NYSBA and ABA on technology law issues and at the W3C conference in Edinburgh known as 'The Olympics of the Internet'. In 2005 he spoke at the International Information Integrity Institute in The Hague and was a keynote speaker at the EC funded ‘Personal Data Protection: Policy and Practice in the EU Accession and New Member States’ conference in Sofia. He has contributed to the European privacy section in the Law of Europe at www.lawofeurope.info .

Alvise Dona' Dalle Rose, Partner

Alvise is a partner with Piergrossi Bianchini Eversheds, the Italian member of Eversheds International. He specialises in transactions and corporate work and has over twenty years' experience of representing multinationals in Italy on mergers and acquisitions, corporate transactions and complex commercial agreements. He also advises on real estate due diligences; the sale/rent of buildings, plant and land; and negotiating complex lease agreements.

Alvise acts in connection with the relocation of companies and has assisted Italian and foreign clients in negotiating, acquiring or disposing of residential properties in Italy and leasing retail property abroad.

2 Irena Edwards, Head of Central and Eastern Europe

Irena is a dual qualified continental advocate and English corporate lawyer. She is a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales and a Czech advocate, full member of Czech Bar.

She joined Eversheds in 2000 from another major City of London law firm to support the Chairman and International Partner in expansion to Central and Eastern Europe (CEE). She acts as a contact for clients looking to do business in the region and leads the CEE Client development effort coordinating closely with the local offices. Irena has 15 years' legal, client development and integration experience in CEE including Russia. She has a thorough knowledge of the business environment in CEE and was invovled in many early M&A, joint-venture and privatisation deals in the region. Irena speaks many local languages including Russia n, German, Czech and Slovak.

She serves on various UK based commercial, governmental and City of London bodies and committees and is an active member of several bilateral international Chambers of Commerce (British-Polish, Russo-British; British-Romanian). She spent three years as an advisor to UK Government on Europe (ministerial appointment).

David Gray, Chief Executive

David is Chief Executive Officer of Eversheds. He has been a partner with Eversheds since 1982 having been Head of Corporate and Managing Partner North.

In April 2003 he was elected as Chief Executive Officer of the firm for a term of three years. He was re-elected - unopposed - in April 2006 for a further term of three years.

Francis Hackett, Partner

Francis is managing partner of O’Donnell Sweeney Eversheds, the Irish member of Eversheds International. As managing partner, Francis' brief has been to manage sustained growth and development of the firm's expertise, profile and turnover. Francis maintains a significant corporate law practice with a focus on the telecoms; ACT and energy sectors. In February 2006, Francis was appointed to the Board of Aer Lingus, the Irish national airline prior to its privatisation. He now represents the Irish Government on the board of that airline.

3 Martin Hopkins, Partner

Martin's practice areas are employment and labour law (both counselling and litigation). He qualified with Eversheds in 1982 and made partner in 1989.

Martin led our Commercial Litigation team in Birmingham between 1991 and 1994 before establishing our HR Group with an exclusive focus on employment and labour law where he remains to this day. In 2002 Martin was appointed Eversheds' Head of Operations for North America, co-ordinating all or our Business Development and CRM activities in this vital market.

Martin advises mainly international businesses including Cisco Systems, Gap, and Affiliated Computer Services. Martin also speaks regularly to groups of HR practitioners and strategists in North America on a range of issues impacting the workplace.

Joanne Hyde, Partner

Joanne is a partner with O’Donnell Sweeney Eversheds, the Irish member of Eversheds International. A pragmatic and business focused employment lawyer, Joanne's unique experience makes her a true business partner to her clients. 4 Robin Johnson, Partner

Robin is a corporate finance and commercial partner specialising in M&A, private equity, fundraising and joint venture work.

His clients include SPX Corporation, Parker Hannifin Corporation, Richmond Foods plc, AEA Technology plc, Marmon Holdings Inc, Cardinal Health Inc, Communisis plc, Rutland Partners LLP, TA Associates Inc, Wal-Mart Europe, Teleflex Inc, Trident Capital, Next plc and Zeus Capital

Mergermarket placed Robin at number one in their Rainmaker league for doing the most M&A deals from June 2004 to July 2005 in Europe.

Legal Business in the UK recently voted Robin as one of the top ten M&A lawyers in the UK and Mergermarket placed Robin in the leading M&A lawyers for 2005. He has been voted International Lawyer of the Year by his Regional Chapter of the Law Society England & Wales for the last two years. Robin's team has been shortlisted for Corporate Team of the Year for the Legal Business Awards in February 2006.

Robin has authored many articles including recently in the Baird Monthly M&A Monitor, International Financial Law Review and The Journal of Private Equity.

He is a member of the ABA International Task Force, member of the Canadia n Chamber of Commerce and a leading member of Eversheds' corporate group in North America.

Peter Kiernan, Partner

Peter is a partner in our litigation and dispute management practice. He specialises in domestic and international investigations, fraud, international corruption,

corporate crime and regulation.

Peter has 17 years' experience in the government service; first prosecuting for HM Inland Revenue and nearly 14 years with the Serious Fraud Office as a Case Controller and Assistant Director, leaving as Deputy Director.

As the SFO Head of Policy he was responsible for developing the role of the SFO in relation to overseas bribery and corruption.

Peter was Solicitor to the Butterfield Review into HM Customs & Excise Investigations & Prosecutions.

He regularly writes articles for a variety of legal journals, the most recent being an opinion for 'The Lawyer'. He has also been a guest commentator on national radio on fraud issues.

5 Diana Newcombe, Senior Associate

Diana Newcombe is a Senior Associate in our regulatory group. She specialises in regulatory compliance, corporate governance and legal risk management. Her work includes development of audit and compliance functions to support internal control systems, minimise exposure to legal risk and provide high quality information to directors and officers. Prior to joining Eversheds, Diana worked as senior legal adviser to a large UK private healthcare company for 5 years.

Diana's experience includes handling investigations and litigation arising out of fatalities and serious incidents. Diana is qualified in both the UK and in Australia as a barrister and solicitor and has appeared as an advocate in both jurisdictions. Diana also has extensive experience resolving disputes through conflict resolution, mediation and facilitation methods.

Diana is also the Project Manager for Eversheds provision of legal services to Tyco International. This work included managing the convergence of some 250 law firms to the Eversheds network of offices across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Prior to moving to the UK, Diana was a legal adviser to the C ommonwealth of Australia's workers compensation and health and safety regulatory authority. She was also a senior investigator for the Commonwealth Ombudsman, conducting high level investigations into the actions of Australian government departments and officers.

Diana has presented public and private seminars to domestic and international audiences on a wide range of topics. She regularly conducts training on regulatory compliance, risk management, internal investigations and complaint handling and negotiation skills.

Diana is an accredited mediator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.

Paul Smith, Partner

Paul is a partner in our Litigation and dispute management practice.

His responsibilities within the firm are varied. He is an elected member of the firm's Board of Directors and of the firm's Constitutional Committee. He is also head of the Regulatory practice and over the years he has defended a number of multi-national companies in relation to criminal investigations. These have ranged from chemical plant explosions, insider dealing, railway disasters, price-fixing,

environmental incidents and other major crises in the UK, Europe and the US.

Paul is also an acknowledged expert on law firm partnering and convergence as a result of his role as client partner for DuPont. Eversheds was the first non-US firm to be added to the DuPont Partner Law Firm Programme and he provides consultancy services to in-house legal departments on external law firm management. He is also a Visiting Professor at Nottingham Law School. He graduated from Warwick University and then trained and practised with Freshfields before joining Eversheds.

6 Stephanie Stein, Partner

Stephanie, an avocat of the Paris Bar, has considerable expertise as a counsel in employment law and employment law strategy.

She has considerable experience of all contentious and non-contentious aspects of employment law, including individual employment relations (drafting employment contracts and disciplinary procedures, employee remuneration, and discrimination), collective employment relations (TUPE, collective negotiations and agreements, employee representatives relationships, redundancies and restructuring strategy and management), and equity compensation (stock option plans, ESPP, and profit sharing

schemes). She also has extensive experience of the legislation surrounding part-time work and the 35-hour week in France.

Stephanie contributes articles to specialist employment law journals and gives lectures and seminars.

Krzysztof Wierzbowski, Partner

Krzysztof Wierzbowski is managing partner of Wierzbowski Eversheds, the Polish member of Eversheds International. He has represented numerous Polish and international firms across various industries, including telecommunications, energy construction, freight forwarding, real estate development and trade.

Krzysztof has broad experience in the area of telecommunications, including negotiations, incorporation and licensing proceedings for the first nationwide cellular company as well as competition and regulatory disputes.

He supervised numerous regulatory strategy and compliance projects in connection with Poland’s accession to the EU. He was the only Polish lawyer profiled in the Global Counsel Handbook:EU Accession 2004The law and leading lawyers in the new member states.

Krzysztof has authored several articles and has been a speaker/chairman at conferences on foreign investment in Poland, especially within telecommunications sector.
