7. Methodology
I am a full-stack developer with 17 years' experience in three main fields:
1. Server administration (FreeBSD, Debian, Ubuntu). I have been remotely root administrating a group of boxes hosting mail, web and data servers, non-stop for the last 16 years
2. Applications programmer: I am primarily a Python/Django developer (4 years experience) though I am still using PHP as well (15 years experience). Most applications I have worked on are heavily database-dependent, many of them with millions of table records 3. Presentation layer, primarily with a view to providing self-administration interfaces for my
clients and an optimal experience to their users, leveraging HTML5, CSS3 and the bootstrap and jQuery ecosystems
I am used to face-to-face as well as remote collaboration (via git, Skype, IRC and email) and remote server administration
I aim at writing applications that are efficient, DRY, well-coded, well-documented, well-tested, easy to extend, easy to maintain and to move forward. This requires that, while my emphasis is on business logic, I strive to be fluent with presentation layer technologies and server-side administration. It also entails being able to discerningly leverage third-party code and the wealth of information available through online resources, github, forums, blogs, irc as well as remaining vigilant towards the dreaded Not Invented Here syndrome.
I routinely dig into the source code of most libraries I use because I need to understand how they work to use them correctly and in harmony with the whole.
I am a quick and resourceful learner, who knows how to and does keep current.
My tools of choice are FreeBSD, Debian, Python, Django, SQL, Javascript, jQuery, Bootstrap, HTML5, CSS3, LESS, git/gitolite/github, bash, sh and the command line, OOP, MVC and open source software but I am also familiar and getting up to speed with Java/JSP/Tomcat.
I can work as an employee or as a contractor through my Paris-based company which covers my health/unemployment/retirement benefits. I am willing to relocate if necessary.
As a French/Chilean/British mixture, born and raised in Switzerland, educated in France, living in the Balearic Islands for 18 years, multicultural and multilingual is my environment of choice.
