Southern Appalachian Historical Association This association strives to preserve the history and heritage in the Southern Appalachian Region. They have programs like ‘Horn in the West’ which provides viewers with the

Children and Family

Children’s Council of Watauga County This organization works with children

primarily between the ages of birth to 5. They offer many services that will benefit not only your child but you as a parent. These programs include affordable childcare, an extensive local resource center, literacy program, and many family support programs like parenting classes, GED program, yoga, and play groups.

The Children’s Playhouse

This is a great place for families with children to come to be creative while also learning. Children are generally ages birth to 8 years old and there are many affordable activities

Hope Pregnancy Resource Center

This is a faith-based organization that provides women with the information and support they need for an unplanned pregnancy. Abortion information is offered from a pro-life

perspective as well as counseling services. They also offer free pregnancy tests, limited

ultrasounds and STD testing, as well as local health referrals.

Mountain Alliance is a place where kids can learn more about self-awareness as well the community around them. This organization provides many medical services for those that are uninsured. Some of these services include basic primary care, specialty care, chiropractic care, acupuncture, counseling, medical education, lab work, and much more. This department offers a service called WIC which stands for Women, Infants, and Children. WIC is a nutritional program that provides women and children with access to healthy foods, breastfeeding support, health care referrals, and healthy eating tips for mother and child.

High Country Community Health

The HCCH offers primary care to those either insured or uninsured. Extended clinic hours are available depending on the day as well as a 24/7 answering service operated by nurses. Other services that are provided are OB care for women, behavioral health care, and other support services such as translation for those that speak only Spanish.

Blue Ridge Dispute Settlement Center

Watauga county individuals, businesses, and agencies all have access to this database. The site offers lawyer suggestions for a variety of different needs such as adoption, immigration, sexual abuse, disabilities, and much more.

Grief Share

Faith based support system that will help you find local grief support groups. The group is designed to help you transition out of grief by having a video seminar, support group

meetings, and workbook exercises and reflections. The closest Boone location is Mt. Vernon Baptist Church but you can find others by typing in your zip code on the grief share website.

Hospice

Hospice offers support and care for those with life-limiting illnesses and their families. They have a few different programs to help grieving loved ones cope with the loss of someone. Some of the programs are Camp Sunshine, for kids 5-12 years old, and Embers Retreat, for kids 13-18 years old. Both of these events are free.
