Leo Flanagan, Manager of Talent, Certification and Licensure, Lawrence Public Schools
Leo is in charge of recruiting talent to support the turnaround effort at Lawrence Public Schools. Lawrence Public Schools believes that the fundamental unit of change in education reform is the school, not the district. The central office works in service of the schools, rather than in management of the schools. In 2012, Lawrence Public Schools began a turnaround in which educators use increased autonomy to lead their schools to success. While autonomy does mean that no two schools in Lawrence are alike, all LPS schools have the following key elements: Open
Architecture, Teacher Leadership, Four Pillars and Collaboration. Lawrence Public Schools is committed to ensuring that our
students, who have for too long been under-served, are provided with a high-quality, free, public education at their local, district schools.
