Meet our Principals!
Each HCA newsletter will introduce one of our
outstanding Principals. We cherish the
commitment our principals make to the many
children whose lives they change every day!
Jackie Zufall of St. PaulJackie Zufall has been principal of St. Paul Campus in North Canton for eighteen years. She began her career as a teacher in Alliance City Schools where she taught art for ten years. While completing post graduate work toward a Master’s Degree in Leadership, she was principal of St. James in Waynesburg. Mrs. Zufall grew up in Canton, Ohio, attending Our Lady of Peace, then Central Catholic High School from which she graduated. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Fine and Professional Art with a concentration in Education from Kent State University. Mrs. Zufall said, “The position of principal has given me an opportunity to use my creativity to build a program that helps students reach their potential. I am privileged to be part of the spiritual growth I see in our students each and every day…something they can only experience in a Catholic School”. Mrs. Zufall and her husband, Sid, have been married for thirty-five years and have two sons. They are Eucharistic Ministers at their home parish of Regina Coeli and are involved with friends and civic activities in the Alliance community.
President’s Message: Servant Leadership
Each newsletter, we will be expanding on the idea of what Servant Leadership is, how it enhances one’s life, and sharing articles written in connection with Servant Leadership by our President, Msgr. Gaetano. "The servant-leader is servant first. It begins with the natural feeling that one wants to serve, to serve first. Then conscious choice brings one to aspire to lead.
The difference manifests itself in the care taken by the servant - first to make sure that other people's needs are being served. The best test, and difficult to administer is: Do those served grow as persons; do they, while being served, become healthier, wise, freer, more autonomous, more likely themselves to become servants? And what effect on the least privileged in society; will they benefit, or at least not be further deprived?" - Robert Greenleaf, Founder of the Servant Leadership Movement
Teacher Spotlight: Dan Mitchell
Dan Mitchell has been teaching English Language Arts at St. Paul School since 2004. “What I love most about teaching at St. Paul School is that I am free to express the Lord’s love and truth to my students free from the constraints that I experienced as a public school teacher.” His humor in the classroom and genuine concern for his students has earned Mr. Mitchell the love and respect of his students. He contributes outside of the classroom by coaching football, leading Power of the Pen and getting involved anywhere his talents lead him. But his love is teaching and his faith. He states, “My position allows me the freedom to explore deeply the Christian roots in American literature and discuss the relevance of keeping close to God in an increasingly secular world”. What he looks forward to next year more than anything else is continuing blessings from the Lord and opportunities to grow stronger in his own faith.

HCA Football
HCA was very proud of the football teams that represented our schools! Every weekend children in grades 5-8 played against each other in a healthy, yet competitive environment. On Saturdays grades 5 and 6 played at St. Thomas Aquinas (STA) or Central Catholic High School (CCHS). On Sundays grades 7 and 8 played at the same locations. Whether you’re a Western Warrior, Black Knight, Viking, or a Spartan these were exciting events that should not have been missed! Flag Football season ended with a picnic on October 12. On October 27 the championship game for 7 and 8 grade will take place at STA at 4 PM.
