About this Course:

The Diploma of Practice Management is the ideal qualification for experienced health administrators wishing to formalise their work based experience and/or step up in their career.

Completion of the Diploma of Practice Management qualification provides students with the capabilities to complete a wide range of managerial tasks and business functions relevant to a medical practice environment.

The business units studied during the Diploma qualification further broaden student’s general business administration skills and knowledge and therefore provide additional opportunities for graduates.

This training is subsidised with Victorian and Commonwealth Government Funding to eligible participants.

Entry Requirements:

Students applying to study the Diploma of Practice Management with SEHPA are

required to have a minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a health administration clinic/service or the broader health sector ideally with some experience acting in a team leader or supervisory role.

Alternatively, students working in the health sector who do not meet this qualification may be considered to study if they have a recommendation from their employer regarding their suitability to study at this level and capabilities to meet the

requirements of this course, including access to the relevant business data required to complete assessments at this level.

For more information regarding these requirements please contact the Training Manager on 1300 473 472.

In addition to the entry requirements listed above, students should have a moderate level of computer proficiency particularly in the use of email, internet, Microsoft word, excel and power point to enable them to manage their assessment requirements and activities and to produce business documents that would be expected at this level. There are no pre-requisite subjects for this qualification.

Career Pathways:

Completion of the Diploma qualification provides students with the capabilities to manage the operations of a small to medium sized health practice in a business or practice manager capacity. Students will study human resources, finance and budgeting, risk management, marketing and industrial relations in the Diploma to appropriately equip them for such tasks.

On completion of the Diploma of Practice Management qualification students may be able to undertake Business Administration or further Management training courses with external providers. It is expected some credit transfers will apply, however, this will depend on the qualifications offered by other institutions. At the time of writing, there is no tertiary pathway for Practice Management available. Students can progress to general Business or Management degrees if they wish to undertake further studies, however, no credit arrangements currently exist between vocational and tertiary institutions.

An overview of each unit can be found on the following pages. Students progressing from the HLT47315 Certificate IV in Health Administration with SEHPA will have 2 units as credit transfer. Credit transfers reduce the cost and duration of the qualification.
