An essential text for those interested in vegetarianism and animal rights. The book is for sure for those who are in deep depression. Again and again, it is said that one should think positively and there are no particularly specific keys to how to do this. More is said about the physical and chemical processes in the brain. Often very difficult language. I brought out of this book only what you need to think positively! But maybe that's enough. Unsaturated fats, including vegetable, rapeseed, olive and sunflower oils, are healthier than saturated fats, such as butter, lard and ghee.

But all types of fat are high in energy and should be eaten sparingly. Foods high in salt, fat and sugar, such as cream, chocolate, crisps, biscuits, pastries, ice cream, cakes and puddings, should be eaten less often and in small amounts. Foods in this group mainly provide energy in the form of fats and sugars , but may only provide a very small amount of other nutrients.

It's important to vary what you eat. Some nutrients are found in smaller amounts in vegetarian sources, or are less easily absorbed by the body than those in meat or fish. Contrary to popular belief, most vegetarians usually have enough protein and calcium found in dairy products in their diet. But if you don't plan your diet properly, you could miss out on essential nutrients. For example, vegetarians need to make sure they get enough iron and vitamin B12 in their diets. During pregnancy and when breastfeeding, vegetarians need to make sure they get enough vitamins and minerals for their child to develop healthily. It was ok, a little preachy.

But it has alot of good points. This book is horrible, the author does nothing but trash meat eaters instead of making a case for vegetarian diet based scientifically and without prejudice. Instead, he often reverts to typical argumentative tactics of fanatics and extremists. The language is sophisticated alright, but he refers to "general opinion" his opinion , name drops and unverified or referenced claims and omits to highlight the opposite side in a neutral way.

He applies the use of quotes from the bible and other sources to justify his reason. He made a few valid point but there are so much questions that are begging to be answered; questions which he very much succeeded in provokin I appreciate what the author was trying to do in writing this book.
