Follow the learning activity sequence for reading, writing and maths and choose a challenge a day from the wider curriculum. Tick them off as you go!

It is okay to revisit or repeat things if it helps you to practise core skills.

One of the best ways to find out about great books is through

recommendations. Your task is to create a book review for your

classmates to tell them all about your favourite book, why you like it, who it’s aimed at, etc. There is a writing frame on page 4 to

help you.

ERAH – Everyone Reading At Home With your reading book spend a good 15 minutes sitting somewhere comfy and quiet away from distractions and read and enjoy your book.

writing a short passage on what happened in the part you have just read?

Vocabulary

In learning pack 3, you used your reading book to find 10 adjectives. With these 10 adjectives, or with 10 news ones, use a thesaurus to look up an antonym for each word (an antonym for sad would be happy – a word that has the opposite

meaning). This activity may help you before you begin.

Maths 1

Learning: to divide by a 1-digit number We have been practising division by one-digit, with and without remainders.

Watch this video to remind yourself of the method (it includes an explanation of how to turn a remainder into a decimal, which you may wish to try as well).

After watching the video, have a go at the calculations on page 7.

Remember to check your answers using the inverse operation (multiplication). e.g. 184 ÷ 8 = 23. So here you would do:

23 X 8

Can you write out the fact family for each calculation? For example: 184 ÷ 8 = 23

184 ÷ 23 = 8 23 x 8 = 184 8 x 23 = 184

Maths 2

Learning: to divide by a 1-digit number Today you are going to do some division calculations with remainders.

You may wish to watch the video from task one again before you begin. After watching the video, have a go at the calculations on page 8.

To check these answers using the inverse, multiply the whole number part of the answer first and then add on the remainder to check that you have the correct answer. For example, 149 ÷ 7 = 21 r 2. 21 X 7 147 147 + 2 = 149

Maths 3

Learning: to divide by a 1-digit number Some divisions with larger numbers can be done in your head, using your Learn Its, Smile Multiplication and Fact Families to give the answer, rather than using a written method. For example, 240 ÷ 6 = ?

I know that 4 x 6 = 24 and 6 x 4 = 24, so I also know that 24 ÷ 6 = 4. Notice that 240 is ten times bigger than 24, so my answer needs to be ten times bigger than 4.

10 x 4 = 40. So, 240 ÷ 6 = 40.

Now have a go at the questions on page 9. If you find them tricky, practise your times tables more frequently to help with your fluency.

It is now time to apply the skills you learnt in maths task 3 to real-life problem-solving - have a go at the questions on page 10 and page 11. Don’t forget to show your working out!
