RAID5 Scaling

• Objective: Show Linear Scaling of eXtremeSAN in RAID 5 sets under increasing load

• Config: 4 volumes of 4 drive RAID 5, 4 initiators, each with 2 connections. Sequential Read/Write test.

• Results:

– Max theoretical Write throughput =4*3*40=480 MB/s – Max theoretical Read throughput =4*3*60=720 MB/s – Results: Write: 96% scaling at 460 MB/s

• How much bandwidth can eXtremeSAN deliver to a single server?

• Config: 1 volume with 7 drives RAID 0, One initiator with 4 connections. Sequential read/write test.

• Results:

– Max theoretical Write throughput =1*7*40=280 MB/s – Max theoretical Read throughput =1*7*60=420 MB/s – Results: Write: 97% at 271 MB/s
