A.H.T. Syngas Technology N.V. registered in the Netherlands with its administrative office in Overath near Cologne /Germany is proud of its direct descent from the inventor of the ubiquitous gas Otto-engines, Mr Nikolaus Otto. He was the founder of the “Gasmotoren-Fabrik Deutz AG” which later became the famous German “Klöckner-Humboldt Deutz (KHD)” company with a large portfolio in the fields of engines, special purpose machines, utility vehicles – and gas generation plants.

As in Europe and particularly in Germany fossil oil and gas

was not available in quantities during the first quarter of the 20th century, the need of gas

generation for electricity and power generation from alternative fuels like coal and wood emerged, making the company a world-wide supplier for gas generators all over the world. During that time, the twin-fire gasification technology was developed, combining the advantages of up-draft and down-draft gasification for the production of an exceptionally clean synthesis gas suitable for the combustion in engines.

With the wide abundance of fossil oil and gas with the beginning 1950ies, the demand for gasification of alternative fuels declined and the gasification technology of KHD was outsourced in the late 1970ies. During the 1980ies, not least triggered by the first oil crisis and a growing environmental awareness regarding the ecologic disadvantages of massive fossil fuel consumption, the need for alternative and more environmentally friendly power and heat generation, according technologies experienced a renaissance. This encouraged a U.S. based entrepreneur to reactivate the ingenious KHD twin-fire concept together with their former gasifier technology department leader.

From here, the success story continued, finally leading to the present A.H.T. Syngas Technology N.V. – a lean-structured and modern company which adapted the core technology to nowadays’ requirements towards clean, efficient and environmentally friendly gas, power and heat solutions for the world. As a consequence, A.H.T. looks back on the experience of more than 15,000 world-wide installed gas generation plants. A.H.T. partners with investors and manufacturers of peripheral technologies on all continents of

this planet in order to offer tailor-made and affordable bio-waste to energy and coal gasification solutions at competitive prices.

Last but not least we would like to present some historical references from the early times of KHD’s and A.H.T.’s success story as we are proud to look back on the unrivalled and literally mature technology which had been proven to be reliable and efficient all over the world already in the early high-times of industrialisation.
