Flexible Payment Options

There are a number of different ways to pay for your course, depending on the course, or your personal situation.

> VET FEE-HELP: Eligible students wishing to study Diploma or Advanced Diploma qualifications are able to access a Government study loan for course costs in a ‘study now, pay later’ arrangement (conditions apply).

> Upfront payment: This payment option is available to all students. However, if you are an international student, you must pay all semester fees upfront before you commence your course.

> Payment plans: Eligible students are able to apply for payment plans, which will assist with your budgeting, and the affordability of the course.

CAREER PATHWAYS

TAFE for School Students

There are three ways to study with TAFE Queensland South West while at school:

1. VET in Schools programs 2. School2Skills (S2S) program 3. School-based apprenticeships or

traineeships Who to talk to:

Talk to your school’s VET coordinator to investigate how to enrol in any of the above three options.

VET in Schools

You can study at TAFE Queensland South West while still in high school and obtain a Certificate II or III, or commence your Diploma before you leave. We can help you combine work, training and school study to gain your QCE and help you move towards a vocational qualification. As a school leaver you will have the advantage of possessing the work-ready skills and hands-on experience your industry is looking for.

School2Skills

In 2016, TAFE Queensland South West and Centenary Heights State High School will launch a new intake of School2Skills (S2S) students starting Year 11. The program allows students to complete their senior years of schooling and obtain a QCE whilst fast tracking their career in a chosen vocational area. S2S provides students with the opportunity to gain

‘real-world skills’ whilst studying a school-based apprenticeship or traineeship and completing their senior schooling. School subjects are scheduled around industry placement and training, allowing for a smooth transition from school to work or to further qualifications. To learn more please contact 1300 914 754.

School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships

School-based apprenticeships and traineeships allow high school students, typically years 11 and 12, to work as paid employees in industry. Choosing this option may contribute towards their Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE).

At the same time, students can undertake a training qualification with TAFE Queensland South West. Students are involved in negotiating a training plan to meet their needs.

Apprentices and trainees are required to work a minimum of 375 hours (50 days) per 12 month period from the commencement of the school-based training contract. For those studying electrotechnology, a minimum of 600 hours (80 days) of paid employment must be provided every 12 months. Benefits:

> Get an education and a job > Earn while you learn

> Gain a competitive advantage in the job market

> Learn the latest skills with hands-on experience

> Work towards a nationally-recognised qualification

> Gain skills and experience to help you into tertiary study

Who to talk to:

Talk to your school’s VET coordinator to investigate how to gain a traineeship or apprenticeship. If you would like to employ a school-based apprentice or trainee phone 13 38 73, visit

www.australianapprenticeships.gov.au or www.apprenticeshipsinfo.qld.gov.au

(9)

Apprenticeships and Traineeships

Apprenticeships and traineeships combine training with working in a real job, for a real boss with a real wage. You can complete a qualification while learning skills at work and under the guidance of a training provider. Training can be undertaken full-time, part-time or school-based. Traineeships vary in length from 12 months to two years, whereas apprenticeships usually take three to four years (full-time). Employers also benefit from taking on apprentices and trainees as they bring energy, innovation and current industry skills to the workplace.

Who to talk to:

Australian Apprenticeship Support Networks provide apprenticeship and traineeship information to job seekers, employers and other interested persons. They also administer Commonwealth incentive payments to eligible employers. For more information phone 13 38 73, visit www.australianapprenticeships.gov.au or www.apprenticeshipsinfo.qld.gov.au

We encourage all potential students to investigate RPL. For more information please contact your local Customer Service Team on 1300 914 754.

Certificate 3 Guarantee

A Certificate III is the first level of post-school qualification shown to have a significant impact on a person’s employment and earnings. It is also the level of qualification usually required to get a job in industries like aged care, child care, hospitality and small business. Working-age Queenslanders are entitled to government funding to complete their first certificate III course through the Certificate 3 Guarantee. The amount provided by the Certificate 3 Guarantee will vary depending on the course chosen and the needs of the student. There are a number of terms and conditions for this new funding, please call 1300 914 754 or visit www.tafesouthwest.edu.au for more information on eligibility.

Study now, pay later - VET FEE-HELP for Approved Diplomas

Get the career you’ve always dreamed of, without the financial stress. If you’re eligible and want to study a Diploma or Advanced Diploma, all or most of your course cost can be paid upfront through VET FEE-HELP and then repaid once you reach the minimum income threshold for compulsory repayment. There are further conditions for eligibility. However, if you’re considering a career change, want to increase your earning potential through higher qualifications, or looking for a pathway to uni, there couldn’t be a more affordable time to study and up-skill with TAFE Queensland South West.

(10)

Certificate I

Certificate I courses cover base-level skills for entry into the workforce.
