This unit gives you the principles required to create and manage receipts and payments within a manual and computerised

bookkeeping system on a cash basis.

What are the requirements for this course?

English requirements

In this online course, you will need to read comprehensive learner workbooks and textbooks, undertake a range of written assessments and independent research activities, and engage in online forums and discussions.

Entry requires the successful completion of Year 12 level English. If you have not achieved this, you can demonstrate this knowledge by: • Completion of a nationally recognised training qualification at a Certificate III level or higher

• 3 years relevant industry experience in a role that requires the use of written documentation and communication

Skill requirements

Students will require some basic computing skills to complete this course successfully. This includes:

• Accessing and searching the internet • Downloading and saving documents from websites

• Uploading documents through websites • Participating in online discussions

• Creating, saving and editing Microsoft Office documents

There are no formal education prerequisites for this course. But the Mathisi does prefer that you have completed Certificate III in Financial Services or a minimum of two years financial industry experience prior to enrolment.

Requirements for all users:

• Adobe Reader XI or equivalent • Printer and associated software • Scanner and associated software

Age requirements

You need to be at least 18 years old to complete this course.

Identify relevant information and establish a chart of accounts

Consult management regarding business activities, identify existing materials and examine for relevance, identify software required, establish chart of accounts and opening balances and gain authorisation for them.

Process receipts and payments Make and receive payments, code and record in bookkeeping system, file receipts and balance cash register against records.

Process and reconcile credit cards Process credit card transactions against source

documents, verify and reconcile against statements, and process according to organisational requirements. Analyse and verify source

documents

Verify source documents for accuracy and tax compliance, and resolve discrepancies between monies owed and paid according to policy.

Set up and maintain a petty cash system

Prepare expenditure authorisation records and file, reconcile and reimburse records.

Manage bank reconciliations and prepare and produce reports

Verify processed transaction against statements, process bank entries and reconcile to balance, produce reports as required by your organisation and make corrections as required.
