ZURICH SIMPLE

LIFE INSURANCE

Key facts

Helping you decide

This important document gives you a summary of Zurich Simple Life Insurance. Please keep it for future reference.

(2)

What is Zurich Simple Life Insurance?

Zurich Simple Life Insurance is a ‘Term Insurance’. This means that we will pay a cash sum if you die during the term, as long as you make the payments each month.

What you need to tell us?

Zurich Simple Life Insurance is very straightforward. You need to answer our basic questions and if you are eligible, we can offer you instant cover. There is no lengthy application process and our aim is to cover you in about fifteen minutes. We rely on what you tell us: we will not be obtaining a report from your doctor and we don’t need a medical examination.

How much does it cost?

The monthly cost of your plan depends on your age, the cash sum you choose and the term of your plan. Once you have taken your plan out, the monthly cost is then fixed for the term of your plan.

What you need to be aware of Eligibility

• Zurich Simple Life Insurance is only available for terms of 5, 10, 15 or 20 years to those aged between 18 and 50, and who are no older than 55 when the plan ends. • The maximum cash sum you can

apply for is £150,000 and you can only have one Zurich Simple Life Insurance plan.

Your responsibilities

• You should take reasonable care to answer all the questions honestly and accurately to the best of your knowledge. If you don’t answer the questions correctly your plan may be cancelled or any claim may be rejected or not fully paid. • A claim can only be made if you

die. You should tell whoever needs to know about the plan, so they are aware of it and can contact us to make a claim.

About Zurich Simple Life Insurance

Your plan summary

This summary does not contain the full terms of the plan – you can find these in the plan terms and conditions and the plan schedule. The plan is provided by Zurich Assurance Ltd.

(3)

When we will pay the cash sum

We’ll pay the cash sum if you die during the policy term shown in your plan schedule provided you have made all the payments that were due each month.

When we won’t pay the cash sum

• If you haven’t made all the payments that were due, or

• if you didn’t answer the questions we asked you truthfully, honestly and accurately as this affects the terms we offer you, or

• if you commit suicide between the insurance cover start date and the end of 12 months from the plan start date. Instead, we’ll refund the payments you’ve made.

Tax

The cash sum paid on death will normally form part of your estate and may be subject to inheritance tax. This will depend on your individual circumstances. This information is based on our understanding of current UK law and HM Revenue & Customs practice. Future changes in law and tax practice, or in individual circumstances, could affect taxation.

• Zurich Simple Life Insurance is no fuss cover – it is simple and basic. It is not tailored to fit your individual needs or circumstances exactly. You must decide if this plan is suitable for you as we are unable to provide you with financial advice. You may prefer to take the time to go through a full assessment of your needs with a financial adviser who may charge for this service.

• If you stop making payments the insurance will stop. You will not get a refund unless your plan is still within the cancellation period (see ‘Can I change my mind and cancel?’).

• The cash sum is fixed and will stay the same so inflation will affect its value as the years go by.

• If you choose a shorter term, you should note that insurance usually gets more expensive as you get older or if you become ill. You may find that further insurance is more expensive or even potentially unobtainable (for example, if your health is very poor).

• You may need to review your circumstances every so often to make sure your life insurance is adequate.

(4)

Compensation

We are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim.

Further information about compensation scheme arrangements is available from the FSCS. Please see the plan terms and conditions for more information.

Language

Our plan documents and terms and conditions are in English and all communications with you will be in English.

Can I change my mind and cancel?

You have the right to cancel up to 30 days after you receive the plan documents. You may do this in writing. We will refund any payment you make in that period.
