are sinners who come short of the glory of God. This an indictment of sinners of all stripes or degree because the basis of evaluation is not other people. It is God. The human tendency for self-justification is to compare ourselves with others. As a jail chaplain I encountered lawbreakers of all types. Those serving time for drunk driving considered

themselves better than thieves. Thieves considered themselves better than muggers. All of them were better than pedophiles. The mentality was “No, I’m not perfect but at least I’m not a (fill in the blank).”

The problem with this almost universal thinking is that the basis of comparison is wrong. Our guilt or innocence before God is not based upon comparisons with others. The scale of evaluation is “the glory of God” which all come short of. The phrase “come short of” is in the present tense so the idea is continually, repeatedly, constantly coming short. No one comes close. If you miss a target by a mile, how lame is it to compare yourself to the guy who misses by two?!!

God’s acceptance of us is based solely upon His own righteousness embodied in His Son Jesus who is received by personal repentance and faith. When the Lord Jesus is trusted we are then “justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:” (Romans 3:24)

OBITUARY

Tharon Duane Fisher

Tharon Duane Fisher, 54, of Coldwater, passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2021 at ProMedica Coldwater Regional Hospital. Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date.

He was born December 29, 1966 to Billie and Mary Ann (Butters) Fisher in Coldwater. Tharon was a selfless man that had a passion for collecting, especially legos. He also enjoyed going to car shows and if he couldn’t attend them he would

always like to watch them on Youtube along with antique and storage auctions. He had a caring heart that he filled with his love for his family; he will be dearly missed for the father, grandfather, son, brother and friend that he was.

Tharon leaves behind his parents Billie (Mary Ann) Fisher of Coldwater; his three children Maranda (James) Harris of Warsaw, IN, Marcus (Andrea Nelson) Fisher of Quincy, Mason (Ashlyn Hall) Fisher of Kalamazoo; his siblings Tammy (Greg) Lopshire, Todd Fisher, Tasha Fisher all of Coldwater; three grandchildren Lexis Harris, Lizzie Harris, Leo Harris; and his many loving nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by the mother of his children Anne Fisher.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.

OBITUARY

Brenda L. Hermance

Brenda L. Hermance, age 80, of Quincy, passed away Friday, July 9, 2021 at the Laurels of Coldwater. She was born March 29, 1941 in Coldwater to Lee and Josephine (Otis) Norton. Brenda married Ray Hermance on May 7, 1963 and he preceded her in death in 2009.

Brenda graduated from Coldwa-ter High School in 1959 and she was formerly employed at Theodore Bargman in Coldwa-ter. She enjoyed being outside,

riding her bike and walking. Brenda also liked taking trips to Arizona to spend time with her family and going shopping. She was a great supporter of veteran organizations, donating to many causes to support the troops and veterans.

Survivors include two siblings, Nealie Herman of Union City and Donald Norton of Kalispell, Montana and four nieces and nephews, David Herman, Donald Herman, Georgianna Herman and Michell Rathbern.

In addition to her husband, Brenda was preceded in death by her parents and two nephews, Darwin and Dallas Herman. Graveside services for Brenda Hermance will be held

Wednesday, July 28, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Lakeview Cemetery in Quincy. Arrangements are entrusted to Eagle Funeral Home – George White Chapel in Quincy.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Quincy American Legion.
