ABOUT LAST NIGHT:

The R-Phils bounced back to win game two of the series against the

Rumble Ponies 8-6. Josh Hendrickson was dominant in his start, going six

innings and allowing just one run via a solo shot in the first inning for the

win. The offense came in bunches, as Bryson Stott, Madison Stokes and

Rodolfo Duran all left the yard. An eighth inning, two RBI triple from

McCarthy Tatum proved to be the difference maker in this one, as his late

runs driven in gave them the advantage over a late comback attempt from

Binghamton.

READING’S RESPONSE:

After the Fightins posted a goose egg in the hit column to open the series,

the message was clear to barrell the ball up in game number two. Leadoff

hitter Daniel Brito took that message to heart, roping a double to kick off

the game, and then Bryson Stott drove him home on a two run blast. These

two extra base hits would be two of the six Reading his this night, as after

a five run layoff, Madison Stokes and Rodolfo Duran went back-to-back for

homeruns of their own, before Duran drilled a double and McCarthy Tatum

delivered the decisive two RBI triple in the eighth.

HENDRICKSON HANDLES THE PRESSURE:

Despite never pitching at the Double-A level before being called up earlier

this year, Josh Hendrickson continues to impress in his first three starts.

After last night’s six inning performance, the crafty lefty now sits with a 2.40

ERA in 15 innings pitched, and a 0.930 WHIP. Hitters are hitting just .222

against the Perth, Australia native, as his only flaw so far has been allowing

the homerun, which has equated for all four runs allowed this year.

BIG LEAGUE CLUB WATCH:

MLB- Philadelphia lost a marathon of a game that made Major League

history last night, losing 13-12 to the Nationals. Early homers from Travis

Janikowski and Bryce Harper with an RBI single from Vince Velasquez

would give Philadelphia an early 5-0 lead, which would be erased in the

bottom half of the fifth. Then, a grand slam from Andrew McCutchen gave

the Phillies a 4-run lead, 9-5, which would also be lost after giving up a

grand slam, putting Washington ahead 11-9 after six. RBI singles from Luke

Williams, Alec Bohm and Ronald Torreyes would give them yet another lead

heading into the ninth, however this lead would not be enough either, losing

13-12.

ON THIS DAY IN BASEBALLTOWN HISTORY:

June 24, 1919: At Lauer’s Park, George “High Pockets” Kelly swats four

home runs and drives in 9 as Rochester beats the Reading Coal Barons,

19-0. Kelly, who would eventually be elected to the National Baseball Hall

of Fame, was 5-for-6 and also had a double for the Hustlers.
