Master’s Degree Program Plan and Transfer Credits

The degree program plan follows the Florida Institute of Technology’s curricular requirements as outlined in the current Catalog (2005-06). The degree program plan becomes effective when signed by the student, faculty advisor, and academic unit head. Should any conflicts or errors be subsequently detected in an approved degree program plan and the curricular requirements as outlined in the Catalog in effect at the time of the program plan approval, the provisions in the university Catalog will prevail.

The university reserves the right to correct any administrative errors that may be entered on an approved program plan.

The degree program plan identifies any deficiency courses that may have been assigned to the student at the time of evaluation for admission, and all required courses needed to complete the total degree

requirements. In the event that a required course identified on the program plan is no longer offered by the university due to a curriculum update, the university will designate the substitute course.

A maximum of twelve transfer credit hours is permitted for one master’s degree at Florida Tech University Online. Transfer credit may be applied toward required courses in the approved program plan subject to approval by the faculty advisor and academic unit head. Courses considered for transfer credit must have been completed at a U.S. regionally accredited college/university, have been completed for graduate credit with a letter grade of “B” or “A,” and have been completed within six years from date of first enrollment at Florida Tech University Online.

General Academic Degree Requirements

It is understood that the degree program plan will be fulfilled when the student completes all requirements specified in the Catalog for degree award. The degree program plan will become inactive if the student is approved to change to another degree program major at the university. Florida Tech’s commitment to award the degree based upon an approved degree program plan shall expire if the student fails to

complete any course in two years from date of admission, or after any two consecutive years of inactivity. Additionally, all courses reflected on an approved program plan (including approved transfer credit courses) must be completed within a required seven-year statute of limitations. Waivers of the course statute of limitations may be considered based upon written currency examinations in the course subject matter.

In addition to the fulfillment of the academic progress standards listed in the Catalog, master’s degree candidates must all satisfy the following requirements:

1. Students must successfully complete (with a grade of “C” of higher) all required and elective courses as outlined on the approved Master’s Degree Program Plan.

2. Any required course in which a grade of “D” or “F” is received must be repeated for credit at the earliest opportunity.

3. A grade of “D” or “F” in any course may result in academic probation, or dismissal depending upon the student’s credit hours completed and cumulative GPA.
