Prayer Guide

Thank you for your commitment to pray for 30 minutes on the third day of the month!

I SPEAK JESUS

“Shout Jesus from the mountains Jesus in the streets

Jesus in the darkness over every enemy Jesus for my family

I speak the holy name Jesus.”

I don’t know if I have ever asked you to listen to a song before you pray. However, I’m asking you to do that today before you come before the Lord.

There is a lot I don’t understand about spiritual life, prayer especially. However, as I have listened to Charity Gayle sing “I Speak Jesus” repeatedly, I am convinced that there is more power in prayer than any of us can imagine! Prayer is essential to spiritual breakthrough! As the song says,

“Your name is power Your name is healing Your name is life.”

As you pray over Memphis today, I know your time in prayer will be empowered afresh as you take hold of the power you have in prayer—the power you have in Jesus’ name!

Click “I Speak Jesus” to listen. There will be an advertisement for the first 5 seconds.

Then click “Skip Ad,” and the song will begin.

PRAY CHRISTIANS “PRAY WITHOUT CEASING,” AND CHURCHES LIVE IN THE REALITY THAT “APART FROM HIM WE CAN DO NOTHING” (1 THESSALONIANS 5:17; JOHN 15:5).

“If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.” John 15:7

“These I will bring to my holy mountain and give them joy in my house of prayer. Their burnt offerings and sacrifices will be accepted on my altar; for my house will be called a house of prayer for all nations.” Isaiah 56:7NIV

PRAY MORE AND MORE CHURCHES JOIN “MEMPHIS PRAYER 365,”

SO WE CAN SEE MEMPHIS COVERED IN PRAYER 24/7/365.

“Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword” (Leviticus 26:8). There is exponential growth in power as more of God’s people join together to pray.

“And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness.” Acts 4:31

PRAY CHURCHES MINISTER FAITHFULLY.

Pray for Bellevue, other specific churches you are familiar with, and churches in Memphis and the Mid-South.

“They were continually devoting themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe; and many wonders and signs were taking place through the apostles. And all those who had believed were together and had all things in common; and they began selling their property and possessions and were sharing them with all, as anyone might have need.

Day by day continuing with one mind in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they were taking their meals together with gladness and sincerity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord was adding to their number day by day those who were being saved.” Acts 2:42–47

• Pray pastors will lead wisely.

o To have pure motives

o To not give place to a spirit of fear or discouragement

o To live and walk in faith, setting a Christlike example for the flock

• Pray congregations will live righteously.

o To volunteer to meet the needs of the “new normal” we are encountering o To maintain a “unity of spirit” and be of one mind

• Pray Bible-believing, Christ-honoring churches will experience God’s blessing.

o To be seen as a giving, serving people o To be noticed as a “glad and sincere” people

o To have the “favor of the Lord” upon them and see God “add to their number day by day”

PRAY FOR SPIRITUAL AWAKENING.

“Besides this you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep.

For salvation is nearer to us now than when we first believed. The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.” Romans 13:11–12ESV

If there was ever a time to be spiritually alert, it is now! Rebellion, ungodliness, violence, and sin of every kind is coming forth. Today is the day to wake up from the doldrums of complacency and apathy and engage in the spiritual battle.

• Pray against a spirit of slumber. “According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear” (Romans 11:8KJV). A spirit of slumber is an evil spirit, one that God will allow to come upon those who are not alert and clothed in spiritual armor.

This spirit causes people to be lethargic, immobilized, in a fog, or spiritually or mentally dull.

• Pray we will be spiritually awake, alert, and clothed with the armor of God. The following is from Bro. Steve’s Warfare Prayer:

Today, I will stand firm in Your strength. Right now, I put on the whole armor of God. I gird my loins with truth. Thank You that Jesus, the living Word of God, is the truth, and that the Bible, the written Word of God, is the truth. I put on the breastplate of righteousness. Thank You that Jesus bore my sin and gave me His righteousness. I shod my feet with the preparation of the Gospel of peace. Thank You that I have peace with You because I have been justified in Christ. Thank You that You, the God of peace, will crush Satan under my feet. Today, I take the helmet of salvation. Thank You that I have been saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ and nothing can separate me from Your love. I take up the shield of faith that will quench all the fiery darts of the enemy. I pray that no weapon formed against me will prosper. I take the sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God, and I stand on the promises of Your Word. I confess that: greater is He Who is in me than he who is in the world; I am seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus;

I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me; You will supply all of my needs according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus; I have overcome the evil one by the blood of the Lamb, the word of my testimony, and because I do not love my life even unto death; I am more than a conqueror through Him who loves me; and no evil will befall me nor will any plague come near my dwelling and that You will give Your angels charge concerning me to guard me in all of my ways.

Thank You for these eternal, sure promises, O Lord!

PRAY PEOPLE SEE THE UNCERTAINTY AND BREVITY OF LIFE AND TURN TO JESUS.

COVID-19 is causing people to be aware of the reality of death. May this recognition cause them to be open as never before to the Gospel.

“So teach us to number our days, That we may present to You a heart of wisdom.”

Psalm 90:12

“LORD, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered—how fleeting my life is.” Psalm 39:4NLT

PRAY FOR MEMPHIS.

Rather than simply reading the words of Bro. Steve’s Prayer for Memphis, please take time to verbally pray for our city using this prayer as a guide.

Heavenly Father, thank You for Memphis. Thank You for strategically locating our city in the middle of this nation, so we can be a catalyst for revival and spiritual awakening. Please pour out Your Spirit on Memphis, Shelby County, the Mid- South, and beyond. Help every Christian and every Bible-believing, Jesus-loving, Gospel-preaching church to Love God, Love People, Share Jesus, and Make Disciples. Demolish every demonic stronghold of pride, violence, racism, poverty, crime, sexual immorality, drug abuse, sickness, religious formalism, fanaticism, legalism, liberalism, and traditionalism. Replace them with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self- control, blessing, mercy, grace, hope, healing, liberty, and freedom. Destroy the stronghold of religion in Memphis that has a form of Godliness but denies the power thereof.

Give us churches that believe in the Bible and preach salvation only in Jesus Christ. Let Your Kingdom come and Your will be done in Memphis on Earth as it is in Heaven. Bring pastors, lay leaders, and congregations together as we pray for this city. Bless our governmental leaders, schools, and economy. Please send good jobs to Memphis. Keep casinos, strip clubs, and occultic activity out of Memphis. Do a work of revival in Memphis that can only be explained by Your presence and power and do it all for Your glory. Call Your people to fervent, united, visible, extraordinary prayer. May the latter glory of Your Kingdom in Memphis be greater than the former, and please grant Memphis Your peace. Do exceeding and abundantly beyond all that we can ask or think. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
