Membership FAQ

What are the hours the Fitness Center is open?

Monday through Thursday 6:00AM - 9:00 PM

Friday 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM

Saturday 8:00 AM - 6:00PM

Sunday 1:00 PM ­ 6:00 PM

Who is eligible for membership at the Trussville Civic Center?

Members must be Trussville residents. We verify residency using Driver's License and the list of Trussville garbage pick-up recipients. If you feel your address should be on this list and is not, please contact the City Clerk at City Hall, 655-7478.

What privileges come with a membership?

Members are allowed to utilize the Indoor Track, Fitness, Cardio, Locker Rooms and Gymnasium.

Group Exercise classes are NOT included in the membership fee. Classes are purchased separately.

What ages are allowed to use the facilities?

Gymnasium

Any age with direct supervision by an adult member 18+. The adult member must be with the child constantly. The adult member CANNOT be in another room or away from the gym at any time.

12 & 13 year olds may use the gym unsupervised as long as they are accompanied by an adult member 18 + that is in the building.

14 years old and up may use the gym unsupervised.

Indoor Track

12 & 13 year olds may use the indoor track with direct supervision by an adult member who is 18 +.

14 years old and up may use the indoor track unsupervised.

No one under the age of 12 may use the track at anytime. This includes children in Strollers or baby carriers. Children are not allowed on the track.

Fitness Center

16 is the minimum age to use the Fitness Center unsupervised.

14 & 15 year olds may use the Fitness Center when accompanied by an adult member

(18+) who is responsible for direct supervision. Direct supervision is defined as being immediately adjacent to the machine that the child is using. The adult must be using an adjacent machine or standing next to the machine that the child is using.

No one under the age of 14 may use the Fitness Center at any time.

What is the cost of Membership?

Family Memberships - Form parents who have children no older than 21 living in the same household. Anyone under the age of 14 must be supervised by a parent or guardian.

College Memberships - For college students who do not live at home and no older than 21.

Parents must be Trussville residents.

Senior Memberships - For persons 60 and over. Persons 65 and over receive membership at no cost.

Active Military - Will receive a single membership at no charge.

What is the charge for a guest?

Member Guest is $5.00 per day - A member guest must be accompanied by member at all times and meet minimum age requirements.

Daily Usage Fee - $10.00 per day - This fee is for Trussville residents that are not members and

are not with a guest.

City of Trussville Fitness Center Rules

Fitness Center, Gymnasium and IndoorTrack Membership

I. Only City of Trussville residents may be members of the Civic Center, and may either purchase a yearly membership or a daily pass. Members will be required to scan membership ro cards upon arrival. The membership card has to be scanned each time the Facility is entered, and access will not be permitted without the card. A replacement fee of$5.00 will be charged for any card which has to be replaced.

2. Guests may be permitted access to the Facility when accompanied by a Member. Members must register their guest(s) at the control desk and pay a Guest fee upon arrival. All guests must be accompanied by a member at all times and present a valid picture ro showing date of birth. Members may bring up to two guests at one time unless prior arrangements have been made. Members are responsible for the conduct of their guest(s).

3. Members who participate in or utilize the Fitness Center, Gymnasium and Track do so at their own risk.

The City of Trussville is not responsible for any injury that may occur to individuals participating in any exercise activity. Participation in exercise activity is on a voluntary basis, and participants, by using the Facility, are responsible for their own capabilities and limitations and the risks associated with the activities.

4. The Fitness facility is intended to give members a clean, safe and enjoyable place to exercise for general fitness purposes. Some highly-conditioned athletes may find that this Facility is not sufficient for their fitness goals, and it is therefore suggested that another Facility may better suit the needs of this special population.

5. Attire for Fitness Center and Gymnasium:

• Proper athletic attire must be worn at all times.

• Tennis shoes must be worn at all times.

• Absolutely

no

sandals, open toed or open-backed shoes are permitted.

• T-shirts or other shirts must be worn.

• No jeans or jean shorts allowed.

6. Food is not permitted in the Fitness Center, Gymnasium or Indoor Track areas. No gum is allowed.

There is a break area adjacent to the fitness area where food may be consumed.

7. Water and sports drinks are permitted provided they are in sealable, plastic containers. All spills that occur must be cleaned up by the participant responsible for the spill.

8. Radios and tape or CD players are not permitted unless they are personal units (such as MP3 players) equipped with headphones.

9. Smoking and tobacco products are not permitted in the Civic Center, and are strictly prohibited.

10. The City of Trussville is not responsible for lost or stolen personal items. Valuables should be secured in lockers. Each participant using the lockers must bring a lock and remove it at the end of the workout. Items wi

not be held at the front desk. No bags, coats or personal items are allowed in the fitness center or the aerobics studio. Locks left on lockers overnight will be cut and removed.

II. Members are required to pick-up after themselves and discard trash and remove personal items.

12. For safety reasons, personal items, bags and other items are to be stored in lockers only and not on the

Fitness Center floor.

13. All members are required to wipe down cardio and weight room equipment after each use. Paper towels and disinfecting spray are available for use.

14. Weight Area Etiquette:

• Use of chalk is not permitted.

• Other members must be allowed to "work in" between sets.

• Weights must be returned to the tree or rack.

• Weights may not be set against the wall, mirror, benches or other equipment.

• Weights or dumbbells may not be dropped on the floor or benches.

• Weight stacks on machines must not be slammed or banged.

15. Cardiovascular Area Etiquette:

• Observe the 30-minute time limit on all cardiovascular equipment.

• Wipe down equipment after each use.

16. Report damaged equipment immediately to the Fitness Center Assistant or Civic Center Attendant.

17. Report unsafe exercise or bathroom conditions immediately to the Fitness Center Assistant or Civic Center Attendant.

18. Report injuries immediately to the Fitness Center Assistant or Civic Center Attendant.

19. The Civic Center staff on duty has the authority to enforce all rules, regulations, and procedures. If at any time a member or a guest does not comply with the rules and/or the request of the staff, the member or guest may be asked to leave, and/or his/her membership privileges will be subject to suspension or revocation.

20. Horseplay, profanity, racist, or sexist comments will not be tolerated in the Facility. Any individual displaying these types of behaviors will be asked to leave immediately and may be subject to suspension or revocation of membership privileges. Parents or guardians shall be held responsible for the behavior of their non-adult children. A failure to require children to abide by the rules and regulations of the Civic Center may result in the suspension or revocation of membership privileges of the parent or guardian in addition to the child.

21. The Fitness Center may be utilized by members who are age fourteen (14) years and older (see item #22 for restrictions). Children who are age thirteen (13) years and under are not permitted in the fitness room at any time. This includes strollers, baby carriers and children sitting inside the fitness room area while a parent/guardian is exercising.

22. Members who are 14 or 15 years old, may use the fitness room equipment only when accompanied by an adult member who is responsible for direct supervision. An adult is defined as someone 18 years or older and direct supervision is defined as being immediately adjacent to the machine that the child is using. The adult must be using an adjacent macbine or standing next to the machine that the child is on.

23. Ringing cell phones are prohibited in the fitness center. Be considerate and place ring tone on vibrate.

Take all cell phone calls to the lobby or hallways.

24. Service may be refused to any member or guest who violates any rule or regulation, or engages in any

verbal and/or physical abuse of the Fitness Center staff or members.

Informed Consent and Waiver of Liability for use of the Trussville Civic Center MUST BE COMPLETED BY ALL PARTICIPANTS (Or by parent/guardian if participant is under 18 years of age)

I understand that the activities, programs and classes offered by the City of Trussville and the use of its facilities, may involve strenuous physical exertion. I acknowledge that injuries or other complications associated with exercise or other physical activities may result from my participation. I acknowledge that certain of the activities in the City of Trussville Civic Center, including but not limited to activities on the indoor track, in the gymnasium, and in the Fitness Center may involve a high degree of risk to my health and safety.

I will consult my physician if I am concerned about any of the risks to my health or well-being that may result from my participation in activities at the Civic Center or otherwise offered by the City of Trussville Parks and Recreation Department. I acknowledge that it is my responsibility to follow instructions for any activity or use of equipment, and to seek help from the staff if I have any questions. In exchange for being presented the opportunity to participate in the activities, programs and classes offered by the City of Trussville Parks and Recreation Department, and to use the facilities of the Civic Center, and in acknowledging that I am aware of and willing to assume the risks associated with these activities, I knowingly and voluntarily agree to waive and release the City of Trussville and any and all of its officers, employees and agents (together, the "City") from any and all claims of liability or demands for compensation that I may acquire against the City as a result of injuries I may suffer or damages or losses I may incur as a result of my participation in any of the activities offered by the City of Trussville Parks and Recreation Department or that take place in the Civic Center.

I agree to abide by and follow all rules and policies outlined in the Membership Handbook, the rules and regulations, and other materials provided to me. I understand that a violation of the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the Civic Center may result in my immediate removal from the facility and a suspension or revocation of my membership. I also understand that I am responsible for the behavior of any guests I may bring to the facility and for my children. I agree to require my children to observe the rules of the Civic Center and to behave appropriately, and acknowledge that a failure to do so may result in a suspension or revocation of my membership, as well as the

membership of my children. I understand that any decision made concerning the foregoing is solely in the discretion of the City, and understand that membership privileges may be suspended or revoked without recourse, in the sole discretion of the City.
