INTRODUCTION

Mount Kenya University is a Chartered University in East Africa. The University has its

main campus located in Thika Town. It has also established campuses in Mombasa,

Nairobi, Nakuru, Eldoret, Nkubu (Meru), Kakamega, Kitale, Kisii, Lodwar and Kigali

(Rwanda). The University has also establised a Virtual Campus and ICT centres in

Garissa, Malindi and Kisumu. The University is a full member of Inter University

Council of East Africa (IUCEA).

Currently the University has nine (9) schools offering Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D),

Masters, Bachelors, Diploma and Professional Certificate Courses.

SCHOOL OF SOCIAL SCIENCES

Introduction

The School of Social Sciences was established with a mission of offering internationally recognized and acclaimed undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral study opportunities. Besides training programmes, the School is a rapidly growing centre of excellence in research and community outreach, with its staff members involved in various projects that greatly compliment its academic programmes. The School is currently comprised of five departments:

• Economics and Development Studies • Journalism and Mass Communication • Humanities

• Languages and • Psychology

In its strategic plan, the School intends to rebrand itself into the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, which will see the establishment of the Department of Economics, Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and the Department of Government and Political Science, among others. The current Department of Humanities will grow to branch into independent departments of Geography and Environmental Studies,

Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies, and the Department of History and Cultural Resource Management.

The School works in partnership with the Institute of Security Studies, Governance and Eth-ics in training and research, with a collaborative flagship research project in Resource Use, Conflict and Peace Building. Our greatest resource is the body of students, undergraduate and postgraduate to whom we are dedicated in offering timely and quality service through career mentorship, Social Science based student clubs, seminars and community outreach programmes.

Our law degree progamme will enable you develop specialized knowledge and skills in legal studies. Besides, it is tailored to address the growing need for lawyers in the public and private sector. Because of its rigorous nature, the programme will give you a firm foundation in the rule of law in the civil and criminal justice system. Further, the Mount Kenya University Bachelor of Law degree will give you a rigorous theoretical and policy implications of the legal practice. These are necessary in a competitive labour market. Application Procedure

Duly filled application forms should be addressed to the Registrar - Academic Affairs. Application should be accompanied by copies of relevant academic and professional certificates.

Application fee is as follows:

Ksh.1,000 (Certificates, Diplomas & Undergraduates programmes) Ksh.2,000 (Post-Graduate programmes) for Kenyan applicants US Dollars 50 for all non-Kenyan applicants.

Mode of payment:

i) Statutory fees of Ksh. 8,000 payable once on registration.

ii) Fees are payable either per semester, trimester or annually. One academic year is equivalent to TWO semesters or THREE trimesters

iii) Payment to be deposited in either of the following Banks:
