August  13th  -  Live  Chat  with  Director  Michael  Maynard.

[10:05:53]  Michael  Maynard:  Greetings!  Great  to  have  you  join  us  this  morning.   Who  cares  if  it's  Friday  the  13th  -‐  the  sun  is  shining  are  we're  pumped  to  be   conducting  our  first  web  chat.

[10:01:42]  Richard:  Michael,  I  will  ask  the  first  question.  Does  the  College  offer  any   degree  programs?

[10:08:51]  Michael  Maynard:  Yes,  we  have  a  2+2  program  with  UNB  -‐  students   complete  two  years  at  the  College  and  two  years  up  the  hill,  graduating  with  a   Bachelor  of  Applied  Arts  (BAA).  We  have  11  students  entering  the  program  so  far   this  year.

[10:03:28]  Courtney:  is  this  where  I  can  find  out  about  any  new  programs  being   offered?

[10:10:55]  Michael  Maynard:  Courtney  -‐  you  bet.  This  fall  we're  starting  three  new   programs:  Aboriginal  Visual  Arts,  Graphic  Design  and  Integrated  Media.  We're   planning  more  for  September  2011,  but  need  to  do  more  research  before  they're   announced  (stay  tuned!).

[10:05:28]  Jenn:  Does  the  College  have  a  residence?  If  not,  can  you  help  me  find  a   place  to  live?

[10:12:00]  Michael  Maynard:  Jenn  -‐  we  have  listings  of  contract  information  on  our   website;  there  are  lots  of  apartments  in  town.  And  we  have  an  agreement  with  UNB   so  their  residences  are  an  option  too.

[10:06:39]  Courtney:  when  does  it  start?

[10:14:32]  Michael  Maynard:  Courtney  -‐  for  sure.  If  you  fill  in  the  web  contact  form   and  ask  for  info  we'll  follow  up  quickly  with  details.  There's  only  a  couple  seats  left   for  the  Fall  start,  so  if  you  are  interested,  you  might  want  to  swing  by  and  talk  to  our   Registrar,  Nancy  Beaulieu.

[10:09:10]  Courtney:  Would  I  be  able  to  get  more  information  about  the  integrated   media  program?

[10:09:18]  Mike:  I'm  interested  in  the  Graphics  program.    What  are  the   requirements  for  entering  the  program?

[10:09:18]  Jenn:  Thanks!  I  found  Gillian's  contact  info  from  the  website,  I'll  give  her   a  call.

[10:18:01]  Michael  Maynard:  MIke  -‐  see  my  response  to  Courtney  -‐  same   recommendations.  These  are  both  great  programs,  building  on  our  expertise  in   design  and  new  media.  Graduates  from  our  Communication  Design  program  (the   previous  curriculum)  are  working  in  top  positions  throughout  the  profession.  You   may  not  know  that  our  website  was  designed  by  a  graduate  -‐  Lise  Hansen,  with   Revolution  Strategies  in  Saint  John.

[10:12:37]  Jenn:  What  is  tuition  with  the  College,  and  if  I  did  the  BAA  program  you   mentioned  above?

[10:14:18]  Courtney:  thanks  for  the  info  Michael...I'll  stop  by  and  see  Nancy  some   time  soon!

[10:14:22]  Courtney:  this  was  really  helpful  :)

[10:20:33]  Michael  Maynard:  Melissa  -‐  we  have  a  great  program  of  evening  courses   offered  throughout  the  year.  Info  is  available  on  the  website,  or  if  you  prefer  we  can   mail  you  a  flyer.  Just  fill  in  the  'request  for  information'  form  on  the  site.

[10:23:27]  Michael  Maynard:  Mike  -‐  we  normally  require  students  to  complete  our   one-‐year  foundation  program,  Certificate-‐Foundation  Visual  Arts,  to  prepare

students  for  advanced  studies  in  our  major  programs.  However,  if  applicants  have  a   strong  portfolio  showing  similar  projects,  either  from  school  or  work,  we  will   consider  advanced  standing.  Either  way,  check  with  our  Registrar  for  admission   details.

[10:18:03]  Bruna  Calado:  Hello,  Michael!   [10:23:46]  Michael  Maynard:  Olá  Bruna!

[10:18:42]  Bruna  Calado:  How  are  you?  I  am  glad  to  be  here  in  this  chat!

[10:25:32]  Michael  Maynard:  Hey  everyone  -‐  Bruna  is  writing  from  Brasil!  This  is  so   exciting,  to  be  talking  about  the  College  of  Craft  and  Design  -‐  here  in  New  Brunswick   and  around  the  world!

[10:21:18]  Bruna  Calado:  Yes,  I'm  exciting  too!

[10:27:59]  Michael  Maynard:  Jenn  -‐  details  are  on  the  website,  but  this  year  tuition   has  been  frozen  so  it's  still  CAN$2,600  per  year  ($5,200  for  international),  and  that's   for  all  our  programs,  including  the  two  years  students  spend  at  the  College  studying   for  the  BAA  degree.

[10:22:36]  Bruna  Calado:  Michael,  I  would  like  to  ask  you  about  the  exchanges.   [10:30:05]  Michael  Maynard:  We're  still  working  out  details  for  international   exchanges  Bruna.  On  Monday  we  have  a  new  International  Coordinator  starting,   Yvette  Bourque,  and  this  will  be  a  top  priority  for  her.  I'm  going  to  be  in  Brasil  the   last  week  of  September  and  will  be  talking  to  our  partners  then.

[10:24:46]  Katie:  I  heard  about  your  new  Aboriginal  program,  I  would  love  to  learn   the  history  and  traditional  arts.  Is  it  open  to  people  who  aren't  Aboriginal?

[10:30:58]  Michael  Maynard:  Katie  -‐  absolutely.  We  worked  with  an  Aboriginal   advisory  group  in  the  program's  development,  and  they  recommended  that  anyone   should  be  able  to  enrol.

[10:25:38]  @JohnPollack:  Hi  Michael,  I'm  going  into  the  integrated  media  program   and  I'm  curious  about  what  find  of  facilities  I'll  have  access  to  for  my  work?

(Computer  labs,  studios,  etc.)

[10:34:29]  Michael  Maynard:  John  -‐  congratulations!  It's  going  to  be  a  great  year.   You'll  be  working  in  state-‐of-‐the-‐art  Apple  computer  labs  (our  great  technician,   Chris  Warren,  says  they're  probably  the  best  in  the  province),  with  new  27  inch   monitor  iMacs,  the  latest  scanners  and  printers,  and  you  probably  knowyou'll  have   your  own  laptop  so  you  can  work  anywhere  outside  of  class  (we  have  our  own   wireless  network).

[10:29:03]  Jenn:  K.  So  the  2  years  with  UNB  would  be  their  tuition  costs,  right?   [10:29:49]  Melissa:  I'm  interested  in  textiles,  how  much  should  I  plan  to  spend  on   studio  supplies?

[10:35:26]  Bruna  Calado  has  logged  out

[10:36:07]  Michael  Maynard:  Jenn  -‐  yes,  total  cost  of  annual  tuition  and  fees  at  UNB   is  $6,180.

[10:36:31]  Bruna  Calado  has  entered  the  room  "www.nbccd.ca  Room"    [10:38:05]  Michael  Maynard:  Melissa  -‐  fees  vary  depending  on  your  studio   discipline.  In  textiles,  I'd  budget  for  around  $600-‐800  per  year.

[10:32:43]  Jenn:  Ok,  thanks!

[10:33:30]  Melissa:  Thanks  Michael  :)
