7. HIGHWAY MATTERS

A. ROUTE 616 (IVOR ROAD) BRIDGE PROJECT UPDATE

Attached for your reference, please find a copy of the Traffic Alert from VDOT regarding the closing of the Route 616 (Ivor Road) Bridge for repairs. The bridge was closed to traffic on January 20 and is expected to remain closed for up to 6 weeks. Detour information is included in the Traffic Alert.

B. PUBLIC HEARING - REPLACEMENT OF RT. 671 BRIDGES

VDOT has scheduled a design public hearing for Wednesday, February 17 from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors Meeting Room to share their proposed project plans for the replacement of two bridges on Route 671 (General Thomas Highway) over the Nottoway River in Southampton County. Construction to replace the 26’ wide bridges with new 42’ wide spans is tentatively scheduled for Summer 2019. VDOT is planning to close that section of 671 while the bridges are replaced. Their value engineering analysis indicates that the project can be completed 9 months quicker and $1.7 million cheaper than trying to build the bridges while maintaining traffic.

C. MONTHLY CONCERNS

Please come prepared to share any highway concerns that exist within your respective districts.
