GOLDEN GATOR GAZETTE
May/June 2010
Hello Everyone,
May is here and summer is approaching. Our first cookbook is at the printer and
will be done for the Book Fair. We will pass out those that were already purchased and
there will be extra to sell. So, if you didn’t get a chance to buy one they will be at the
Book Fair. It being a 50’s Diner theme it worked out perfect.
Please join us at a PTA meeting, and meet our new Board members for next year.
Remember just because you come to PTA doesn’t mean you need to take on a job, we
love to hear new ideas.
I’m sorry to say that we had to cancel “Parent’s Night Out” this year. There were
low ticket sales, but we’ll try hard to bring it back next year.
I hope everyone who attended the Mother/Son event had a great time. There were
250 people this year surpassing last year’s total of 135 people. Well done Zeba and
Vivien!
I will be stepping down from Presidency; my daughter will be a sixth grader next
year. Yvette Kintzle and Christine Logan will take over as Co-Presidents. I will still be
around to help in any way that I can.
Thank you,
Darlene Fiedorowicz
PTA President

May/June 2010 Dear Parents,
The time seems to be going by so quickly as we approach the end of the year. Earlier this month we had our annual statewide STAR testing and students are currently in the middle of our last trimester’s District benchmark assessments.
On April 27 we had a very successful Fun Run. Thank you to everyone who participated and especially to the parents who organized and ran the event. It was a lot of fun! You may have noticed several jugs outside the office—Student Council is sponsoring a fundraiser called “Pennies for PE”. You can drop in any spare change into your child’s grade level jug—the grade level with the greatest amount in their jug at the end of the fundraiser on June 5 will receive a special prize. All of the money raised during the Fun Run and the “Pennies for PE” fundraiser goes toward funding our PE program for next year. Thank you for all of your help! Speaking of PE, Golden Hill is participating in the Governor’s Challenge, a statewide initiative designed to promote fitness and healthy food choices. Our school is currently in 3rd place in all of Orange
County. Way to go, Gators!
Faces of Fullerton was held at the downtown plaza on May 1. Hopefully you were able to stop by the Golden Hill booth and make a painted ladybug. Many thanks to Mrs. Jennifer Juarez, Mrs. Monica Torres, and all of the parents who helped out at our booth.
Congratulations to 3rd grader Darby Clement (Ms. Mohr’s class) and 6th grader Joanne
Tran (Mrs. Lee’s class) for being selected as Outstanding Students in the City of Fullerton Student Recognition program. Both students were honored in a ceremony at City Hall on May 17.
A special thank you to ALL of our PTA members for their efforts this year, led by our president, Darlene Fiederowicz, and her board. These ladies deserve a huge thank you for everything they do for our school. This group is amazing!!
On Friday, May 28, from 11:30-12:45, we will be hosting a school-wide family picnic to celebrate our recognition as a California Distinguished School. All parents and family members are welcome to attend and eat a picnic lunch with the students. There will be music and other fun activities during the picnic. Please join us!
Our last day of school is on Monday, June 14, 2010. We will have a special schedule that day: AM Kindergarten: 8:25 a.m. – 9:55 a.m.
PM Kindergarten: 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Grades 1-6: 8:25 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.
To our 6th graders, farewell and best of luck in junior high school! To our returning
families, we look forward to seeing you in August. School starts for the 2010-2011 school year on Monday, August 30, 2010. We will send home specific information about next year as it gets closer.
If you have an incoming Kindergarten student and haven’t registered him/her, please stop by the office to pick up registration materials and reserve a space. Also, if your child(ren) won’t be attending Golden Hill next year, please be sure to let the office know if you haven’t already done so.
Whatever your plans are for your summer break, the Golden Hill staff and I wish you the best for a safe, healthy, and restful vacation.
With much appreciation, Bob Johnson
