It will be a useful progression route for those interested in furthering their study, widening their work role or learners who wish to study this to complement other programmes (e.g. health and social care, children’s care, learning and development, voluntary and community work). This qualification does not qualify learners to practice as a counsellor.

The majority of our courses are designed for people who are aged 19 years or over at 31 August 2015 and some of our courses are designed for families. See specific course details for information.

Choosing the right course

If you are not sure what course is right for you, especially in relation to accredited courses, you can request to speak with one of our qualified information advice and guidance specialists. Please speak to your centre in the first instance to arrange this.

Learning support

If you require any assistance to access our courses we can provide a range of services to help you learn: In class mentor support; assessment for learning difficulties; note takers, readers and signers and assistive equipment and technologies. Paying for your course

The government’s eligibility criteria for fee waivers and reductions are complex and are presented in a simplified form in this course guide. If you receive certain benefits or are eligible for fee discounts we can discuss these with you at time of booking. Look out for C, next to courses where concessions may apply. For courses that lead to a qualification, additional exam fees may apply.

24+ Student loans

If you are wanting to study for a level 3 or level 4 course, you may qualify for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan. Applying is easy, your household income isn’t taken into account, there’s no credit check and no repayments until you earn over £21,000 per year. Courses which are eligible for a 24+ Advanced Learning Loan will be marked like this: 24+ Student Loans

FREE courses and concessions

Some learners may be entitled to concessions or free courses. This may apply to learners who are: in receipt of Jobseeker’s Allowance (including those receiving national insurance credits only) in receipt of Employment Support Allowance (ESA) - Work Related Activity Group (WRAG)

unemployed and claiming any state benefit and are needing specific skills offered by the course to enter employment aged 19 - 23 and studying for first full level 2 or 3 qualifications.

Are you a professional or volunteer working with a local community group? Do you think that a getting started with craft and/or art course would be of value for your customers, clients or learners? If so we’d love to hear from you. This course is modular and can be set up with your customer in mind. It’s designed to develop personal skills and employability skills as much as it is designed to develop a new skill or hobby. For some groups and organisations we will receive funding to deliver this training free of charge to you and your customers.

Courses run throughout the year. These courses are flexible and you can come along to a number of classes to fast track your learning.

ECDL develops computer skills at levels 1 and 2. Level 1 includes IT user fundamentals, using email and the internet and security for IT users. Level 2 includes word processing, spreadsheet software, presentation software, database software and improving productivity using IT. Learners must attend a free assessment.

Maths GCSE headstart

This course is free and available to anyone who does not already hold a GCSE Maths at grade A* - C. Start studying for your GCSE in January and get a headstart with extra tuition for the main exam in May 2017. GCSE maths helps students develop a knowledge and understanding of problem solving, reasoning, applying maths in context and the functional elements of maths. This course is suitable for students who wish to progress to college, university, teacher training or employment and progress to A-level maths.

An introduction to the STLS level 2 course. It is essential to complete this free introductory course prior to enrolling on the main level 2 course.

This course is for volunteers and newly appointed teaching assistants. Learners need to spend at least ten hours per week working in the classroom. Learners must have previously attended the six week introduction course. If this has not been attended, please contact the centre to discuss when and where the next introductory course will take place. Learners need ICT skills and a good level of written
