Delivered throughout the year This course is delivered in partnership with the Holiday Inn Express and will help you take the first steps towards being employed within a housekeeping or facilities management role as well as teaching you new cleaning and housekeeping techniques to use in the home. CATERING COURSES

Get into Catering - Free Hospitality and Catering Taster Session

11th February 2016, 17th March 2016, 21st April 2016, 26th May 2016, 30th June 2016

09.00 - 13.30

During the first half of this session you will gain an introduction to the Hospitality and Catering industry – what it is and roles within the industry. You will have a tour of the College restaurant (Waterside Brassiere) learning about standards within a restaurant as well as expectations from both staff and customers. You will also have a tour of the College kitchens. You will look at standards within an industrial kitchen and hear about the different types and styles of cooking. You will receive a career talk about employment and training progression routes within the Catering sector including Middlesbrough College’s Make a Career programme.

The second part of the session, will be a practical session in the College’s industrial kitchens; preparing, cooking and presenting a simple meal. To enrol call 01642 333597.

Contemporary Puddings and Desserts

Thursday 9th June 2016 18.00 - 20.30

A short course on contemporary puddings and desserts it will include versions of the traditional desserts with a contemporary twist. Dishes such as sticky toffee pudding, steamed sponge pudding and custard, creamy rice pudding, lemon posset, fruit pie, custard tart, Yorkshire curd tart, homemade ice-cream and many more tasty treats.

Chinese Cooking for Beginners

You will learn to cook a selection of typical and unusual dishes for any discerning palette. You will make a selection of authentic dishes as well as extra recipes that you can try at home. It will cover popular dishes such as stir fry dishes, rice dishes, spring rolls, dips and the very popular Chow Mein.

Keeping your Mac or PC running at its optimal performance is not difficult, and a small amount of preventative effort can go a long way. On this course you will learn how to keep your computer up to date, building up your knowledge of essential new software and anti-virus technology.

This course is designed for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. The course supports transition into education, work and volunteering and is suitable for those who wish to learn new skills, meet new people, take part in creative activities such as card making, jewellery making, badges and calendars and work as part of a team.

You will learn how to take part in an enterprise project, produce products to sell as part of your project, set up a stall and sell your items. All profits will be donated to a charity of the group’s choice. This course will support you to be able to plan activities and build your confidence to be able to work as a team.

This course is designed for adults with learning difficulties and disabilities. The course supports transition into education, work and volunteering and is suitable for those who wish to learn new skills, meet new people, develop independence and to be able to bake cakes or pastries.

You will learn how to plan for a charity coffee morning and prepare baked goods of your choice. Your finished baked goods will be judged and the proceeds of the coffee morning will be donated to a charity of the of classes choice. This course will support you to be able to plan activities and build your confidence to be able to plan activities and work with others.
