Efflorescence is a temporary surface condition which is common to all concrete products. The process is caused by the chemical nature of cement. This reaction can appear as an overall chalky white bloom (a softening of color) or in more concentrated patches. It is difficult to predict how long the effects of efflorescence will last. It depends on the type and amount of deposit as well as local weather conditions. The action of carbon dioxide and rainwater will gradually remove the deposit, in most cases, leaving the original color of the roof intact without further efflorescence occurring. It is superficial and in no way affects the quality or functional properties of the tile. material. MonierLifetile’s concrete roof tile systems

undergo the most stringent testing for fire safety

and pass with a Class A fire rating, the best rating

available. Topping your home with a MonierLifetile

roof is a smart decision indeed, but there are other

fire resistant roof system components that can

protect your home from wind blown flames and embers

that can enter through a home's vulnerable vents.

MonierLifetile is pleased to offer Brandguard Vents, the leading flame and ember

resistant vents. They protect homes and buildings from the threat of wildfire and

nearby structural fires. The overlapping baffles in the vents act as a barrier to prevent

the intrusion of flames and embers, through a structure’s vulnerable vent openings.

The patent pending design has comparable net free vent area (NFVA) to conventional

vents and allows for sufficient exchange of air to prevent mold issues and save

energy. Brandguard Vents were the first commercially available vents designed to

meet the new Chapter 7A requirements of the California Building Code. This new

code requires builders and roofers to use vents that resist the intrusion of flames

and embers when building in fire-prone areas. All Brandguard vents are made with

26 gauge G-90 galvanized steel for durability, are readily paintable, and carry a 20-year

manufacturer’s warranty.

Our Elevated Battens are a crucial aspect of MonierLifetile’s Energy Efficient Roof System, and improve the performance of any tile installation. They provide positive anchoring for each tile, raising each tile off the roof deck to provide ventilation and the unrestricted flow of any moisture on the underlayment.

As the sun slowly heats the tiles during the day, the air beneath the tiles in the sub-tile space is slowly heated. Rising heated air escapes through a vented ridge weather block, such as Figaroll, Zephyr Roll®_{or MLT RidgeVent.}

Elevated battens create a continuous pathway for the heated air to rise and flow up to the ridge while drawing in cool, fresh air through the Vented Eave Risers.
