Reducing Costs in

Enter SD-IntegrationSuite: It offers a wide-ran-ging set of tools to streamline IT operations and minimize expenses. SD-IntegrationSuite lends itself to many scenarios, such as conso-lidating applications, optimizing integration processes and workflows, building a Scripting Factory, introducing quality assurance pro-grams, seamlessly transferring software packages to software distribution tools, and updating your Definitive Software Library (DSL).

Application Consolidation

Intelligently consolidating an existing software portfolio can slash the amount of money you spend on licensing, software integration and technical support. Plus, portfolio manage-ment can eliminate redundancies in your soft-ware inventory.

Integration Processes

and Workflows

By having well-documented integration requi-rements (dependencies, contacts, responsibi-lities, configuration, etc.), you can simplify your integration process and complete it in less time.

Transparent, properly designed processes also let new applications be integrated more efficiently.

Software Packaging

Scripting Factories are responsible for gene-rating pre-configured, easy-to-install installa-tion packages, ideally according to defined best practices. They allow the same infras-tructure and processes to support various technologies such as Windows Installer (MSI), software virtualization, and terminal server applications.

As know-how repositories, they also let you develop and maintain your knowledge base to deliver consistent quality in your software packages.

Software deployment and support is one of the biggest cost

drivers in enterprise IT. It doesn't have to be that way, though.

By heavily standardizing your workflows and technologies, you

can cut these costs dramatically.

Quality Assurance

Quality assurance standards provide transpa-rency and raise productivity by significantly reducing hidden costs due to customer com-plaints or support requests. Through repor-ting interfaces, you can get the information you need to proactively optimize your proces-ses on an ongoing basis.

Transfer to Software Distribution

If you consistently coordinate all your activities in the software integration process, you can eliminate the following errors when distribu-ting the software later on:

Using the wrong call parameters Wrong application configurations for cer-tain end users

Undocumented dependencies (third-party applications, runtime environments) Application conflicts ("DLL Hell") Operating system incompatibilities

SD-TECHNOLOGIES

To be efficient, software integration proces-ses need uniform structures, procesproces-ses and technologies. That's why SD-IntegrationSuite provides the infrastructure you need to map your processes. It even comes with a field-pro-ven template for ITIL-compliant software inte-gration.

SD-IntegrationSuite simplifies the standardi-zation process with many automated mecha-nisms such as:

Generating integration documentation Project and resource management Virtual teaming (online and offline) Automated Scripting Factory (SD PackageIntegrator)

Built-in quality assurance and documenta-tion (reporting)

Integrating software packages with your software distribution solution

Integration with existing service desk solu-tions (data interchange)

Defining and maintaining your Definitive Software Library (DSL)

Software Integration

The software integration process covers all the activities and workflows required to inte-grate an application in your enterprise. With SD-IntegrationSuite, you can model your pro-cesses individually. The solution even ships with interfaces for running work packages and documenting their completion.

Portfolio Management

Portfolio management is what drives soft-ware integration and connects your integra-tion tools to user departments. The portfolio manager accepts software requests, and consolidates and standardizes your applica-tion portfolio. Packaging requests are genera-ted by SD-IntegrationSuite over built-in interfa-ces. The solution stores and backs up all the files in the package on the IntegrationSuite server, and records key details like application properties, contacts, target groups, priority and urgency levels.

Integration

Preferred configurations, application settings, product administrators, dependencies and

licensing information are all collected in SD-IntegrationSuite. This data goes into automa-tically generating an integration document that conforms to your company's standards. In essence, this is the "specification" for gene-rating your installation package.

Scripting Factory

The Scripting Factory produces installation packages such as MSI setups, virtualized soft-ware packages or terminal server applica-tions. IntegrationSuite is equipped with inter-faces for performing the following functions:

Resource management for Scripting Factory engineers

Managing and assigning packaging jobs (task lists and checklists)

Monitoring and optimizing workload distri-bution in the Scripting Factory (priority management)

Reports and statistics

SD-IntegrationSuite also ships with PackageIntegrator, the module that forwards the packaging jobs to Scripting Factory engi-neers.

PackageIntegrator

PackageIntegrator is designed to be fully inde-pendent from your underlying technologies and tools. Templates, libraries, knowledge base entries and tool settings are all mana-ged centrally so your packaging standards will remain consistent.

PackageIntegrator supports offline packa-ging. That way, your employees or contractors can fill packaging orders offline and synchro-nize them the next time they connect to the packaging server. Each synchronization cess uploads both the project files and a pro-gress report to IntegrationSuite. Project managers can track job progress and active-ly manage projects as needed. When a packa-ging order is completed, the system automa-tically increments the project status and sends a message to everyone located down-stream in the process chain.

Check-in/check-out mechanisms ensure that only one employee can work on an installation package at the time, creating an ideal environ-ment for virtual teaming.

PackageIntegrator is an expert system. It tells packagers what steps to take next in order to maximize quality in the least amount of time. However, it doesn't just list "to do's" – it provi-des engineers with transparent, automatic mechanisms for actually completing the tasks. As such, it sets new standards in packaging quality, speed and transparency.

The benefits of PackageIntegrator at a glance:

Complete packaging jobs efficiently Manage all assigned packaging projects Check-in and check-out capabilities for acti-ve projects

Work through assigned task lists

Access shared templates, libraries, knoled-ge base entries and tool settings

Integrate packaging tools Virtual teaming

Automated validation capabilities

Automated packaging processes and scripts

Update project status on the server

Once they pass the quality assurance test, the work packages are transferred over to the software distribution tool. Since SD-IntegrationSuite comes with a special interfa-ce, installation packages can be automatically integrated into the software distribution envi-ronment. The benefits:

Fewer errors when integrating installation packages into software distribution appli-cations (configuration, settings and depen-dencies)

Improved control over workflows before and after the installation process

SD-IntegrationSuite also comes with the follo-wing features for the release process:

Back up all the project files to the IntegrationSuite server

Back up all the generated documents to the IntegrationSuite server

Update the Definitive Software Library and/or CMDB

Update the asset management database Notify the requester that the software is available for distribution

Generate reports and statistics

Quality Assurance

A three-stage quality assurance tool reviews the Scripting Factory work packages tho-roughly using pre-defined processes:

Lockdown and Deployment Testing: Can the application be installed correctly with the current software distribution solu-tion? Does the application also work on a standard client with restricted user privi-leges?

Configuration Tests: Did the installation routine use all the preferred configura-tions from the integration document? Application Integrity Tests and Piloting: This task is carried out in cooperation with the various user departments. The engineers assess how well the application works after packaging, and fix any errors they may find. They also re-check the con-figuration in this step.

SD-IntegrationSuite is also outfitted with interfaces to:

Accept test requests Work through checklists

Execute automated test scenarios Document test results

Generate status reports and statistics
