As always, The Bubbles is your first source of information about happenings in our community. You will also find information posted in the clubhouse, on the bulletin boards in the mail rooms and in the glass case at the end of the mail rooms. Please keep deadlines in mind for purchasing tickets to events.
If you need something placed in The Bubbles, you must have it to the editor no later than the 10th of the month preceding the issue in which it should appear....even earlier is better:

Please remember that there are dumpsters
located behind the clubhouse specifically for
recycling: cardboard, paper, plastic (#1 & #2),
aluminum cans. Please do not fill up the
garbage dumpsters with these items. Your use of
the recycle bins benefits the association. Also
remember that you can recycle your used
batteries in the basket provided in the clubhouse.

This is a huge THANK YOU to Brenda Brooks who, each month during our season, inserts advertising flyers and gets the Bubbles ready for distribution. It is a big job, and we need to let her know that we appreciate all she does. Along with that, we also thank the people who make sure your monthly issue gets to your home. We have been short delivery people this year which meant most deliverers had to double up their routes. Thank you one and all!
Fountain East Safety Patrol
Our evening security patrol is a volunteer opportunity for you to help keep our park safe and secure; however, it is every resident’s responsibility to be aware of suspicious activity and/or people in the park. If you feel something is not right, if you see someone on a bicycle or walking in the park who does not belong, you should contact the POLICE immediately. Remember...your vigilance keeps all of us safe and secure.

FE Association President
Activities are getting cranked up again in February. Marble racing resumed in January, and after the first meeting "for the money" in January, it was decided to race every two weeks instead of every week. So marble racing every 2nd and 4th Thursday at least through the end of March.
A new activity will start in February on the first and third Thursdays, Radio Theater. The only skills needed are to be able to read out loud and be ready to have some fun. We will have had our first organizational meeting before this Bubbles comes out, but never fear, you can still join in. I am looking at the end of February for the first performance. Also coming in February is a paint class. This will be conducted by a Grand Rapids friend of mine, Sharon Vanous, who winters in Apache Junction. This class will be held at the clubhouse on February 15 from 1-3 pm. No painting or artistic skills are required to have a fun time and go home with an Objet d'Art painting. We will be painting a desert scene. Sharon will bring all the equipment and paint, all you have to do is show up. The cost of the class is $30. Please sign up and pay by February 12 with me, Kari Torgerson(#293). Space is limited to 20 people, and we must have at least 5 people for the class to happen. I will be signing up people on Saturday mornings or you can come to my house to sign up.
Be sure to check the calendar. In addition to our many regular monthly activities, the Chili Cook-Off is back with a great new format and the addition of a salsa contest (not the dance but the dip).
Our next association meeting is February 4 at 6:30pm. Please make time to attend as these meetings are for you.
FEBRUARY
The most important fact lies in the name itself. Februa was a purification ritual and was considered as early Rome Spring Cleaning Festival. In this Festival people were ritually washed. Februs, the Roman god was named after this festival. The most amazing fact about February lies in its odd original name. In Old English, February was called Solmonath (Mud month) or Kale-monath (Kale or cabbage month). It is the one of the most commonly misspelt words in the English language.
Fountain East Ladies’ Club
Margret Atwood
,
Ladies’ Club President
We were off to France for our January luncheon. We learned a few phrases and tried them out on each other as we experienced tastes of the country. A busy and efficient group of ladies made this a very successful event. Chairman Margret Atwood thanks Ann Bricker, Jeanne Wadle, Norma Lanning, Joanne Gignac, Doris Caldwell (in charge of serving the punch), Betty Rodgers, Connie Aagard.
A special presentation was made on behalf of the Fountain East Ladies’ Club to A New Leaf (represented by Adele Dietrich).
Last year the group raised $650 from basket raffles in support of a local domestic violence program. A New Leaf helps men, women and families in various ways. The Ladies’ Club thanks all those who helped make this a successful fund-raiser from those who provided gifts for the baskets to those who purchased tickets.
