NCAA DIVISION II MEN’S LACROSSE COMMITTEE
JULY 21-22, 2015, MEETING
KEY ITEM.
•
Regional Alignment Map.
The committee has developed a regional alignment map that
represents regionalization and closely aligns the number of sponsoring institutions
between the two regions for the Division II Men’s Lacrosse Championship (see
Nonlegislative Item 2-b).

Committee Chair Selection.
(1)
Recommendation. That Bradley Jorgensen, assistant athletics director and
head coach at Saint Leo University, be appointed as chair of the Division II
Men’s Lacrosse Committee. Mr. Jorgensen will replace Dan Blair, associate
athletics director at Franklin Pierce University, when Mr. Blair’s term as chair
expires.

Effective Date. September 1, 2015.

Rationale. Mr. Jorgensen has served as a valuable committee member in each
of his three years and is more than capable of fulfilling the role as chair.

Regional Alignment Map.
(1)
Recommendation. The committee recommends the regional alignment map
(Supplement 1) be adopted for the 2017-18 academic year.

Rationale. As the sport of men’s lacrosse continues to grow in Division II,
there has been an increase imbalance in the number of institutions within each

of the two geographical regions. The 2015-16 regional alignment map
(Supplement 2) has 24 institutions in the north region and 41 institutions in
the south region. Over the past year the committee has reviewed several
different alignments. The proposed regional alignment will have 32
institutions in the north region and 36 institutions in the south region.

INFORMATIONAL ITEMS.
1.
Approval of the 2014 minutes.
The committee approved its July 22-23, 2014 annual
meeting report as written.
2.
2015 Championships Recap.
The committee reviewed the 2015 championship, pointing
out the successes and some of the challenges during the event. The committee commended
Drexel University and Philadelphia Eagles staffs for their great work at the championship
site.
3.
2016 Championship Planning in Philadelphia.
The committee began to plan for the 2016
championship in Philadelphia. Game times will be at 1 and 4 p.m. or noon and 3 p.m. with
Division III playing in the first contest followed by the Division II championship.
4.
Bench Size.
The committee discussed increasing the squad size and bench personnel. In
the sport of lacrosse, rosters continue to increase as the sport grows. Many institutions
have charged their coaches to increase their rosters. The committee understands squad
size/bench personnel cannot be address in a non-budget year but will be bringing forward a
recommendation in the future.
5.
2015-16 Selection Criteria.
The committee reviewed and discussed the selection criteria
in place for the 2015-16 academic year. The staff informed the committee about the
training and information items being put in place to enhance their knowledge of the
selection criteria. The committee and staff will review the new criteria and informational
items with the coaches at the annual coach’s convention in December.

Regional advisory committee.
The committee reviewed the regional advisory committee
roster pointing out the replacement needs due to term expirations.
7.
Survey evaluations.
The committee reviewed the survey evaluations submitted.
8.
Officiating.
The committee was updated on the process of hiring a new National
Coordinator of Officials. The new National Coordinator will start their duties on
September 1, 2015. The committee had discussions of allowing conferences to submit
nominations to the committee and National Coordinator for qualified candidates to work
the men's lacrosse championships.
9.
2016 annual meeting.
The committee agreed to meet July 19-20, 2016.
10. Joint Meeting.
The committee will participate in a teleconference with the Divisions I and
III Men’s Lacrosse Committees to conduct the joint session of the annual meeting, which
will take place Thursday, July 30, 2015.
