impuls Check Tool

Ensure the quality in your ISV and custom solution.

impuls Check Tool helps Microsoft Dynamics Part-ners verify that their custom solutions for Micro-soft Dynamics NAV are free of errors concerning graphical user interface (GUI) in classic client and coding standards in all clients. Using the integration between impuls Check Tool and Microsoft Dynamics NAV, partners can quickly and easily identify errors or inconsistencies in their solutions, thereby reducing testing time and improving the overall look and feel of their customizations. When you create solutions in Microsoft Dynamics NAV for your customers, you want to be sure that the features blend both visually and programmatically with the rest of the application. No matter how much testing you do, you are certain to have errors and inconsistencies that are

invisible to the eye but that nevertheless reduce the quality of the finished product, either through per-formance or usability. impuls Check Tool’s ability to automatically examine the code, the object properties, and the user interface and produce a list of errors and warnings makes it an indispensable tool in polishing your development to produce the most professional result possible. impuls Check Tool’s checking proce-dure and its associated features change the testing process from one of laboriously clicking and che-cking each object and property to a matter of simply running a batch job. The comprehensive list of errors and warnings gives developers a fuller understanding of how to make their solutions seamless parts of the entire Microsoft Dynamivs NAV application.

The check process

When checking your objects in impuls Check Tool, you have complete control over what gets checked, how it gets checked, and how you see the results. The check process is a batch job that examines each aspect of the objects that you specify. It uses a comprehensive rule set to produce a list of errors, warnings, and infor-mation messages regarding any problems or inconsi-stencies it finds. The process has several features that make the analysis and testing of your objects as easy as possible.

Connection to the client

When you run both impuls Check Tool and the Microsoft Dynamics NAV classic client at the same time, impuls Check Tool can directly access the objects in the Microsoft Dynamcis NAV database, allowing you to easily switch back and forth between the applica-tions, make changes to your objects and immediately perform new checks without intermediate steps. If you want to work independently of Microsoft Dynamics NAV database, you can export the objects and work with them in impuls Check Tool as a text file.

Known issues (function)

When you have checked your objects once, you can export the results of the first check as a “known issues” file. When you later change the objects and would like to see whether there are any new errors or

warnings, you can tell the program to either exclude the known issues from the results list or to simply mark them as known issues.

Control over the criteria

Before you check your objects, you can tell the program which areas you would like the program to check and how. You do this in the Check Objects Options window by turning on and off the various tests and specifying criteria as you choose.

like a spreadsheet does, giving you a familiar interface for manipulating the data. The user interface has sor-ting, grouping and filtering functions so that you work with only the information you need, when you need it. In the Check Results window, the program uses color-coded graphics to clearly show what types of messa-ges the program has returned, from the more serious Error type, which should be urgently fixed, to the less serious Warning and Information types.

regarding the error itself. The program also generates a complete log of summary information listing what tests were performed and how many errors were detected.

Export function

Once you have the results you need, you can export the error and warning messages in either an extensible markup language format (*.xml) or in Microsoft Excel format (*.xls).

Reporting Language Translation window

Multilanguage capability

Microsoft Dynamics NAV uses multilanguage proper-ties to fulfill language requirements in nearly all objects. Typically the source language in NAV objects is English and one or more additional languages – each language with specific shortcuts and values. But how can you ensure that custom objects or properties have a language specific translation? impuls Check Tool not only checks multilanguage properties but also allows you to add or change the reporting language in the tool itself:

Source languages

A source language is the language in which the objects from Microsoft Dynamics NAV are written. For example, suppose your objects were written in a French version. When you set up impuls Check Tool, you have the opportunity to specify access keys and key words in different languages. In this case, the key words for “yes” and “no” would be “oui” and “non”. Then, when you check your objects in the program and specify the source language as French, the pro-gram can review the values in each property for the correct “Yes” and “No” values, as well as for the correct access keys.

Reporting languages

Not only you can check objects written in other languages, but you can also have the errors, warnings, and information messages produced by impuls Check Tool written in any language you choose. You do this by setting up translations of the standard messages. You can then specify in the program which language you would like to use for showing the mes-sages. You also have the ability to export the messages in either the same or a different language altogether.

Updates of the Rule Set

Microsoft Dynamics NAV is constantly changing and new features and standards are added. The rule set that impuls Check Tool uses is also updated to keep up with these changes. Just download the latest version
