On the map

In the period from 2005 to 2011 we have been involved in projects from Tanbreez in southern Greenland to Citronen Fjord in the very north. We can handle mining projects under even the roughest arctic conditions, and we look forward to putting your project on the map.

Mining in arctic conditions

We have worked in Greenland for more than 50 years and thus gained special knowledge and experience of working in remote areas under severe climate conditions and with limited or no access to common infrastructure. We know the laws and regulations and have good relationships with the Greenlandic authorities.

Maximum return on investment

Establishing a mine requires highly detailed planning and perfect execution, both of which are essential for achieving the safest and best possible return on invested capital. We always take great care when planning the entire project, dividing it into manageable stages with exact

specifications of all activities from staffing and equipment to time schedules and budgets.

All of this ensures that you can get detailed information about progress made on all stages of the process, and that production can begin as quickly and safely as possible.

At MT Højgaard we have all the competencies necessary to develop,

establish and operate mines. We can service your project from the initial

investigation activities to the operation and administration of the mine.

On solid ground

MT Højgaard is Denmark’s leading contractor. We have 5,000 employees and an annual turnover of approxi-mately EUR 1,200 million. Our company has traditions going back to the beginning of the last century and experience from all over the world with structures of every kind – from tunnels and bridges, ports and roads to housing, offices, airports, leisure buildings, offshore foundations and mining services.

Exploration and drilling

When you decide to explore ”new territory”, we are ready to assist you from day one, e.g. by providing the infrastructure, equipment, drilling and blasting activities.

We have developed special tech ni- ques and equipment for core drilling through ice and bedrock. This helps you gain valuable knowledge at the lowest cost when planning your pro-ject. Recently we have thus carried out more than 7,000 m of geotech-nical and exploration drilling on the west coast near Nuuk.

Feasibility studies

A carefully prepared feasibility study is the foundation for a sound project. When working with feasibility studies we contribute with our experience

and creative thinking to the project. According to your specific require-ments, we develop and provide the necessary documentation in terms of layout, site studies, budgets, time schedules, programmes etc. in order to evaluate the viability of the project.

Applications and approvals

A good relationship with the authorities is the key to success. Knowing how and when to file the proper application with the authorities definitely enhances the possibilities of keeping the project within the outlined financial limits and agreed time frames.

We are well acquainted with relevant legal and administrative statutory requirements in Greenland,

and we use our experience to make sure that your project meets all standards and requirements.

Construction and operation

From initial layout through detailed engineering, purchasing of equipment, staffing, shipping and logist ics to construction on site you can be sure that your project will be managed according to your requirements and our certified systems for quality and safety. We have the experience and the equipment to construct roads, harbours, bridges and all other necessary infrastructure in order to establish and run your mine. Once the mine is established, we possess the knowledge to take

MT Højgaard is your one-stop shop for mining services in Greenland.

From the first time you set foot on new ground and start drilling till your

mine is fully operational, we assist you in every part of the process.

care of drilling and blasting, trans-portation, crushing and logistics; not to mention the running of the camp and catering as well as handling of administrative services.

Consultancy

No matter what stage your project is at, you are welcome to draw on our expertise. We offer design and consulting services, management and supervision and have special know-how about international standards.

Our consulting engineers have experience in all primary engineering disciplines such as civil works,

buildings and industrial plants; furthermore, we offer environmental consultancy services.

Over a span of almost 100 years we have built up extensive international experience in the design of heavy process facilities. For more than 50 years we have put that experience to use in Greenland, for example through our continued involvement at Thule Air Base.

The safe choice

We strive to be among the best in the industry and to promote constant improvement of quality and safety by continuously monitoring and

evaluating all activities throughout the project.

With a dedicated QHSE organisation and full commitment to our policies on quality, health & safety and environmental matters, we comply with all international rules and regulations.

Meeting future challenges

The mining industry in Greenland is still in an early stage. MT Højgaard is already well established here, and we aim to be your first choice for a partner when you decide to explore the options for developing mines. Greenland has a very fragile environ-ment; we make sure that your project does not compromise the environ-ment or conflict with local laws or regulations.

We also make an effort to train and hire people locally, creating jobs and making sure that the local population benefits from your project. And we

have initiated partnerships with other Greenlandic and international contractors, enabling us to handle even large-scale mining projects. Furthermore, MT Højgaard offers a range of services through our subsi-diaries. From drilling to construction of roads, harbours and runways to operation of the established mine, your project is safe with us. We encourage the health and safety of any employee, contractor and client, and protection of the environ-ment.

Exploration works at Jameson Land during the summer of 2011. We established the camp, provided catering and camp management as well as drilling services. Many different nationalities were present in the camp during this period.
