1 VACANCIES

Daystar University is a chartered interdenominational and evangelical Christian University. Its mission is the development of Christian Servant Leaders for the expansion of God’s kingdom in Africa and the world.

We invite applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the following vacant positions. Applicants to these positions must be committed Christians, who show evidence of involvement in their local churches.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR – COMMUNICATION

The purpose of the job is to contribute to the scholarship and intellectual life of the university by engaging in teaching, training and mentoring students, coaching of lecturers and quality research in line with the institutions guidelines in Academic Affairs to achieve overall objectives

Responsibilities:

• Carrying out independent research as a principle investigator and project member. • Publishing research outcomes in appropriate referred journal of international

standing and disseminate the results of research and scholarship in other outlets • Engaging in fundraising for research development and consultancy

• Conducting workshops, seminars and conference at university and national levels • Supervising PhD students and coaching of lecturers within the department and the

school

• Providing leadership in the development of innovative and attractive courses, shaping and influencing curriculum development for quality assurance

• Mentoring of students in academic and spiritual nurture

• Evaluating and assessing of undergraduate and post graduate students by conducting internal examination.

• Implementing of best practices in teaching, training and research for improved performance and achievements.

• Managing and implementing change initiatives to achieve desired university plans and culture.

• Ensuring Christian behaviour and appropriate behaviour both internal and external in line with the institutions vision.

Requirements:

• Christian commitment and practice

• Earned PhD in Communication or it’s equivalent from an accredited university

• 3 years teaching experience at university level as a senior lecturer or 6 years research/industry experience

• Minimum of 48 publication points as a senior lecturer (32 earned from refereed scholarly journals)

• Supervised a minimum of 4 post graduate students to completion including one doctoral student

• Attracted research or development funds as a Senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow

• Membership to a relevant professional body would be an advantage • Demonstrated leadership skills

CORPORATE AFFAIRS & MARKETING MANAGER

The purpose of the job is to lead the development of the corporate affairs strategic position including profiling of Daystar University, communications, marketing, student recruitment, resource mobilization, alumni relations in order to achieve the University mission and vision.

Responsibilities:

• Providing strategic leadership on the Daystar University brand

• Leading in the development of the corporate affairs strategy, branding and positioning

• Leading in design and implementation of the students recruitment strategy to meet set objectives and targets in line with the University’s Strategic Plan

• Leading in the design and implementation of the marketing communication strategy in line with University objectives

• Developing and implementing resource mobilization strategies to meet set targets and objectives

• Initiating, developing and sustaining linkages with existing and potential donors • Developing strategies for the meaningful engagement of University alumni

• Identifying, implementing and benchmarking best practices in corporate marketing, customer relationship and partnership/engagement strategies that underpin student recruitment to target.

• Developing internal communications strategy that supports the communication of the University’s vision.

• Leading and managing the effective delivery of change through a collaborative process.

• Responsible for talent management in the corporate affairs department.

• Preparing, monitoring and reporting of the departmental budgetary allocations.

Requirements

• A Master’s degree in Marketing or Communication from an accredited university or a Master’s degree in any other relevant field but having a track record of more than five years in a similar position may be considered).

• 5 - 7 years’ progressive experience • Demonstrated leadership skills

SENIOR PROCUREMENT AND CONTRACTING OFFICER

The purpose of the job is to coordinate and manage the sourcing of goods, works and services including contracts management.

Responsibilities:

• Formulating and implementing procurement policies and procedures. • Managing and monitoring end-to-end tendering process.

• Managing contracts and procurement planning. • Ensuring compliance with procurement regulations. • Conducting market analysis to ensure value for money.

• Managing communication with customers in procurement matters. • Providing secretarial services to procurement committees.

• Procurement reporting with recommendations for process improvement. • Leading the capacity building of user departments.

• Coordinating disposal of approved assets.

• Implementing best practices in tendering, contracting and purchasing. • Talent management in the department.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Procurement and/or Supplies Management or equivalent • Diploma in Procurement and supply chain management

• At least 7 years of relevant experience

• Membership to a professional body will be an added advantage (CIPS or KISM) PRSK)

SENIOR ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER – UNIVERSITY SERVICES

The purpose of the job is to maintain and ensure safety of the campus infrastructure and assets including third party service delivery in residence, transport, catering, cleaning and inventory services.

Responsibilities

• Allocate offices/facilities various uses

• Ensure proper service provision, usage and accounting of utilities

• Ensure all utility equipment are in good working conditions and bills settled promptly • Regularly contact the utility service providers to ensure continuity of service

• Facilitate provision of all required services for staff, students, visitors/ • Supervise and motivate staff in section to produce their best

• Ensure that the campus environment is kept clean and safe. Requirements:

• Christian commitment and practice

• Master’s degree in Business Administration or its equivalent

• Bachelor’s degree preferably in Facilities/Project Management OR Higher Diploma in Property Management

• Seven (7) years in Project Management

• Demonstrated staff supervisory, planning, leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills

SENIOR LECTURER – INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS AND SECURITY STUDIES (2 VACANCIES)

The purpose of the job is to contribute to the scholarship and intellectual life of the university by engaging in teaching, training and mentoring students, coaching of lecturers and quality research in line with the institutions guidelines in Academic Affairs to achieve overall objectives

Responsibilities:

• Teaching and training of students in line with schemes, policies, processes and procedures

• Engaging in fundraising for research development and consultancy

• Having a confirmable contribution in his or her field of expertise and a strong community engagement.

• Having administrative experience, such as serving as an HOD or dean will be an added advantage.

SENIOR LECTURER –SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

LECTURER – COMMUNICATION (DEVELOPMENT COMMUNICATION) The purpose of the job is to contribute to the scholarship and intellectual life of the university by engaging in teaching, training and mentoring students, coaching of lecturers and quality research in line with the institutions guidelines in academic affairs to achieve overall objectives

Responsibilities:

• Teaching and training of students in line with schemes, policies, processes and procedures

LECTURER – MUSIC

The purpose of the job is to contribute to the scholarship and intellectual life of the university by engaging in teaching, training and mentoring students, coaching of lecturers and quality research in line with the institutions guidelines in academic affairs to achieve overall objectives

Responsibilities:

• Providing academic leadership in the music programs of the university and mentorship for music students

• Guidance in managing musical performance in the entire university on behalf of the home department

• Teaching and training of students in line with schemes, policies, processes and procedures

• Conducting quality research to enhance the scholarship and intellectual contribution of the department

• Evaluating students through continuous assessments and examinations • Engaging in curriculum and program development

• Implementing of best practices in teaching, training and research for improved performance and achievements.

Requirements:

• Involvement in church worship, and music composition (presentation of audio recordings or score sheets at the interview will be an added advantage)

• Ability to play a musical instrument

• Earned PhD Music or relevant field from an accredited University

• Master’s degree holders with 3 years university teaching experience will also be considered

• A minimum of 24 publication points on the CUE scorecard, of which 16 should be from refereed journal papers

• Membership of academic association

LECTURER –NURSING 2 POSITIONS (Medical Surgical and Midwifery) The purpose of the job is to contribute to the scholarship and intellectual life of the university by engaging in teaching, training and mentoring students, coaching of lecturers and quality research in line with the institutions guidelines in Academic Affairs to achieve overall objectives

Responsibilities:

• Teaching and training of students in line with schemes, policies, processes and procedures

• Conducting quality research to enhance the scholarship and intellectual contribution of the department

• Evaluating students through continuous assessments and examinations • Engaging in curriculum and program development

• Clinical teaching and supervision of students in the area of specialization. • Mentoring of students in academic and spiritual nurture

• Earned PhD in Nursing (Medical- Surgical Nursing, or Adult Nursing or Paediatric Nursing) from an accredited University

• Master’s degree in Medical /Surgical nursing, specialty in Adult Nursing or Paediatric Nursing will be preferred. Holders with 3 years university teaching experience will also be considered

• A minimum of 24 publication points of which 16 should be from refereed journal papers

• Registered with the Nursing Council of Kenya • Have a valid practice license.

LECTURER – ECONOMICS

The purpose of the job is to contribute to the scholarship and intellectual life of the university by engaging in teaching, training and mentoring students, coaching of lecturers and quality research in line with the institutions guidelines in Academic Affairs to achieve overall objectives

ASSISTANT ACCOUNTANT

The purpose of the job is to ensure timely processing of payments in line with finance policies, processes and procedures, manage staff debtors’ accounts and timely reporting. Responsibilities:

• Management of staff debtors accounts

• Provision of timely and accurate monthly and quarterly reports • Petty cash count checks and reporting

• Reporting on approved research projects and thesis supervision payments • Receiving and disseminating correspondences and documents

• Communicating with staff debtors

SENIOR LIBRARY ASSISTANT

The purpose of the job is to assist the Librarian deliver an efficient and user centred service to achieve overall University objectives

Responsibilities:

• Participate in the development, review and implementation of library policies

• Liaise with faculty, students and staff for selection, procurement and processing of relevant and up to date library information resources to facilitate teaching, learning and research

• Provide timely and quality user-centred print and electronic information service to faculty, students and staff.

• Maintain and regularly reviews library databases (OPAC, Multimedia, Special Collections, Textbook loan) to ensure a quality information service

• Regular indexing and abstracting of theses, academic journals and newspapers • Liaise with faculty for awareness creation and promotion of new and existing library

resources

• Participate in development of induction modules on information literacy for new students, faculty and staff

• Train students, faculty and staff on how to use internet resources and how to access the online journal databases

• Induct and supervise students on internship

OFFICE SYSTEMS SUPPORT SPECIALIST

The purpose of the job is to carry out installations and maintenance of computer systems and authorized software as defined in the ICT policy to achieve overall University objectives.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out ICT Software and Hardware installation and maintenance • Providing ICT technical and operational support

• Carrying out ICT training and administrative duties

• Conducting ICT Systems tests and upgrades Providing effective and efficient ICT systems support services as per guidelines processes and procedures

• Responding to end user needs reported at the help desk

• Installing authorized software and hardware to ensure operations and efficiency of equipment

• Observing deviations, recording and reporting for follow up and continuous improvement

• Maintaining ICT equipment inventory including details of movements, obsolete equipment and making recommendations for appropriate action

• Carrying out ICT user training to ensure capability

• Carrying out periodic ICT Systems tests and upgrades including backups • Implementing best practices in ICT services

• Ensuring Christian and appropriate behaviour, both internal and external, in line with the institution’s Strategy.

• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or its equivalent from an accredited University

• At least two years’ experience

• Must possess the recognized professional qualifications such as ITIL, CCNA, MCSE or their equivalent

• Good Communication and Interpersonal skills

COMPUTER LAB SUPPORT SPECIALIST

The purpose of the job is installing and maintaining computer systems and authorized software as defined in the ICT policy to achieve overall University objectives

Responsibilities

• Providing effective and efficient ICT systems support services as per guidelines processes and procedures
