Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina – North Carolina Community College System IIANC-NCCCS Partnership Scholarship

Eligibility, Nomination, Selection, and Award Rules for Fall 2015 and Spring 2016

September 16, 2015

Background: In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the NC Community College System, the North Carolina

Association of Insurance Agents (NCAIA) established the “Independent Insurance Agents of North Carolina – North Carolina Community College System Partnership Scholarship” to be administered by the NC Community Colleges Foundation. The 2015-16 academic year marks the third year of this scholarship program. Since its inception, forty-three scholarships have been awarded.

Who is eligible for nomination? To be eligible for consideration as your campus nominee, a student must:

1. Be a North Carolina resident for tuition purposes; and,

2. Be enrolled in either the Associate of Arts in Business Administration or in any of the twelve Business Administration curricula within the Associate of Applied Sciences’ Business

Technologies program; and,

3. Have earned a minimum of 24 credit hours toward the degree requirements for the degree listed in requirement #2 prior to fall semester 2015; and,

4. Be enrolled in fall semester 2015 for at least 12 credit hours that are applicable to the degree listed in requirement #2; and,

5. Be in good academic standing as determined by the community college where the student is enrolled for fall semester 2015; and,

Page 2 of 2 How are nominations made? Each community college, using the eligibility criteria above, should identify all students who meet all the eligibility criteria and then, after thorough review, select one (1) student as your campus nominee for the scholarship. The attached nomination form must be

completed and received by 5:00 p.m., Friday, October 8, 2015 to: Dr. Monty Hickman

Associate Director for Student Success Support Services North Carolina Community College System

5016 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-5016

Do not submit any additional materials with your nomination that are not requested. Please note the nomination form requires the signature of your President as certification that your campus

nominee meets all eligibility criteria. The signature of the student nominee authorizes your campus to release to the selection committee the academic and financial aid information required on the

nomination form. The student nominee’s signature also acknowledges that withdrawal from your campus before the end of spring semester 2015 will result in a proration of the scholarship in accordance with the Federal Title IV rules administered by the campus Financial Aid Office.

Who chooses the scholarship recipients? Nomination forms will be reviewed by a committee of the NC Community Colleges Foundation. The committee will review the fifty-eight (58) nominations and select twenty-five (25) recipients after thorough review of all nomination materials. All decisions made by the selection committee are final.

When will campuses and recipients be notified? Letters or emails of notification will be sent to the campus contact identified on the nomination form by October 22, 2015. The scholarship payment will be made to the community college on the student’s behalf, not directly to the student. The funds will be used to pay fall semester 2015 charges (e.g., tuition, fees, books, other campus charges). The spring 2016 disbursement will be used for spring semester charges of a fall awardee who meets the

requirements above for a spring award. If a financial aid refund balance exists after either of these scholarship disbursements are made to the awardee’s campus account, then the community college will write a check to the student for the remaining balance.

Post-award activities: Each campus that has an award recipient is strongly encouraged to invite an IIANC representative to your institution’s scholarship recognition ceremony, or other appropriate event, and recognize the recipient. IIANC can assist you in identifying an IIANC representative from your local community for this event. The IIANC contact information will be included in the award notification.
