SENTENCE

: The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come

near; repent, and believe in the good news.

Mark 1.15

PRAYER OF THE DAY

God of the new and eternal covenant, as

the forty days of the great flood swept away the world’s corruption

and watered new beginnings of righteousness and life: grant to us,

who are washed clean and born again in the saving flood of

baptism, the wellspring of your grace, that your gift of new life may

flourish once again; through Jesus Christ our Redeemer, who lives

and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever

and ever. Amen.

FIRST READING Genesis 9:8-17

8 Then God said to Noah and to

his sons with him, 9 ‘As for me, I am establishing my covenant with you and

your descendants after you, 10 and with every living creature that is with you,

the birds, the domestic animals, and every animal of the earth with you, as many as came out of the ark. 11 I establish my covenant with you, that never

again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.’ 12 God said, ‘This is the sign of the

covenant that I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: 13 I have set my bow in the clouds, and it shall

be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 When I bring clouds

over the earth and the bow is seen in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant that is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 When the

bow is in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.’ 17 God

said to Noah, ‘This is the sign of the covenant that I have established between me and all flesh that is on the earth.’

May your Word live in us

and bear much fruit to your glory.

PSALM 25:1-10

1. In you, O Lord my God, 7. Remember not the sins of my youth, have I put my hope: nor my transgressions:

in you have I trusted, but according to your mercy let me not be ashamed, think on me.

nor let my enemies triumph over me.

8. Good and upright is the Lord: 2. Let none who wait for you therefore will he direct sinners

be put to shame: in the way.

but let those that break faith

be confounded and gain nothing. 9. The meek he will guide in the path of justice:

3. Show me your ways, O Lord: and teach the humble his ways. and teach me your paths.

10. All the paths of the Lord are faithful 4. Lead me in the ways of your truth, and true:

and teach me: for those who keep his covenant

for you are the God of my salvation. and his commandments. 5. In you have I hoped all the day long: Glory to God; Father, Son, because of your goodness, O Lord. and Holy Spirit;

as in the beginning, so now, 6. Call to mind your compassion and and for ever. Amen.

your loving-kindness: for they are from of old.

SECOND READING 1 Peter 3:18-22

18 For Christ also suffered for

sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit, 19 in which also he

went and made a proclamation to the spirits in prison, 20 who in former times

did not obey, when God waited patiently in the days of Noah, during the building of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight people, were saved through water. 21 And baptism, which this prefigured, now saves you—not as a removal

of dirt from the body, but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22 who has gone into heaven and is at the right

hand of God, with angels, authorities, and powers made subject to him. May your Word live in us

and bear much fruit to your glory.

THIRD READING

A reading from the gospel of Mark, Chapter 1, verses 9-15.

Glory to you Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

9 In those days Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee and was baptized by

John in the Jordan. 10 And just as he was coming up out of the water, he saw

the heavens torn apart and the Spirit descending like a dove on him. 11 And a

voice came from heaven, ‘You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased.’ 12 And the Spirit immediately drove him out into the wilderness. 13 He

was in the wilderness for forty days, tempted by Satan; and he was with the wild beasts; and the angels waited on him. 14 Now after John was arrested,

Jesus came to Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God, 15 and saying, ‘The

time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God has come near; repent, and believe in the good news.’

May your Word live in us

and bear much fruit to your glory.

STOP THE TRAFFIC CHOCOLATE EASTER CAMPAIGN

a briefing for activists for an Easter campaign will be held at Dickson on Thursday, 19 February from 7:30pm. Register at www.eventbrite.com.au/e/canberra-stop-the-traffik-easter-campaign-briefing-tickets-15495768260. Are you concerned that the Easter chocolate you eat may have been produced using the labour of trafficked children?. When a chocolate is certified with Fairtrade, Rainforest Alliance or UTZ Certification steps have been taken to ensure the chocolate is traffik-free. Farmers who take these steps are using labour practices where human trafficking is prevented. These farmers need the support of Australian supermarkets and consumers. Woolworths and Coles have been asked to commit to double the number of certified products they stock for Easter in 2016. Aldi is stocking and Haighs is producing certified Easter products.

However, before we make too many plans, we'd love to know how many folk would in principle be interested in coming on a weekend away. So, would you please put your name(s) on the sheet in the foyer if you're interested. Ta, Paul C.

January ended with a net surplus of $435. The January offertory was close to $1,000 above that which had been budgeted for, which was based on last year’s reduced offertory amount. There was no income received from church rental at all during January. There was also no extraordinary income or expenses during January. PARISH FINANCES FOR DECEMBER 2014

December 2014 Year to Date

Income* $ 46,425.76 $ 237,869.08 Expenses* $ 42,775.47 $ 235,388.24 Net Surplus $ 3,650.29 $ 2,480.84 Cash acc Balance $ 27,029.54 $ 27,029.54 SPF donations (2015 target = $10,000 (834 per month)) $ 245.00 $ 5,673.60

December ended with a net surplus of $3,650.29, resulting in a year-to-date surplus of $2,480.84. This was due to the accumulated monies in the Special Purpose Fund of $5,673.60 being transferred into the parish working account, together with almost $2,000 from the Christmas Fair proceeds, being the parish share of those monies. The December offertory was about $1,000 below budget, resulting in the year-to-date offertory being approximately $9,300 behind budget. There were only 4 Sundays in December, but 3 fortnightly pay periods, adding an extra $3,000 approximately to the usual monthly expenses. Quarterly utilities for the church & Kaleen Rectory were paid. Term 4 ex-gratia payments were made to our Respire youth leaders. The end of year

Compendium Fund distribution totalling $4,400 was made to the following people/organisations:$1000 each to Patrick & Christian Education in Schools, $900 each to Kim & Jaime , & Paula & Jason , $300 to The Barnabas Fund, $200 to St John’s Care, & $100 to the Diamantina Scout Group. The Special Purpose Fund finished the year with a balance of $5,673.60, which was $3,226 below our target amount of $8,900, though still adequate to cover what would otherwise have been a parish deficit for the year. For further information or details regarding the Parish finances, please

speak with the Honorary Parish Treasurer, .(*
