Parent Weekly Bulletin w/c 18 January 2021

Thought for the week: Martin Luther King Day/Equality

Message from the Head

I hope that you are well. Can I begin by thanking you for your support as demonstrated in the many emails that we have received complimenting staff at

Ferndown Middle. The situation is not easy for anyone at the moment, it is a difficult and anxious time.

It is so important that your children continue with their education in the best way possible, given the circumstances. A reminder that lessons are running as

per your child's timetable and work is expected to be submitted. We will be monitoring pupil engagement on Satchel:One and if your child is not completing

work, a message will be sent to you via ParentMail. Therefore, it is important that you communicate if you are experiencing any technical issues or problems

with submitting work via [email protected]

However, I am impressed by the dedication and effort of the children and the staff both in and out of school. Remember that your child needs to take regular

breaks away from the computer. Use the PE exercises suggested by the PE department and if possible have some time outside.

Lateral Flow Tests

Schools have been asked to implement weekly tests for staff and secondary age students. We are now up and running with the staff and a letter will be sent

out today to the parents of years 7 and 8 pupils, who are currently in school. The letter will explain the process together with a consent survey for parents to

complete. Please read all the information carefully before completing the on- line form.

Finally, a big thank you to all the frontline workers, we appreciate the hours that you must spend at work and the risks of your role.

We would appreciate it if your child is attending school and is unwell in any way, please keep them at home until they are well enough to return. Please

continue to report absences in the usual ways.

Take care everyone and keep safe.

Mrs Allen

What to do if you or your child shows symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19)

Symptoms of COVID-19 (coronavirus) are …

 a high temperature – (38C+) - this means you feel hot to touch on your chest or back. You may have other symptoms, such as shivering (chills), sweating or warm, red skin. You do not necessarily need to measure your temperature

 a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste (anosmia) – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
