Why Wealth Management?

Most of us have financial goals that require the accumulation of savings. Whether it is to create a retirement nest egg to cover expenses after we leave the workplace, to supplement an inadequate pension, to fund the kids’ tertiary education or maybe to leave something for the next generation or our favourite charity.

Many don’t realize that accumulating funds via savings is only part of the journey to achieving financial goals. Equally important is the need to properly invest those funds to maintain or increase their real or purchasing value. With the long term inflation rate above 5%, doing nothing would result in accumulated savings losing value each year.

The process of investing involves making initial decisions about where to put one’s money (bank, mutual funds, bonds, shares, etc), monitoring the financial markets and factors that affect the market and ensuring that the initial investment is still appropriate or making changes where warranted. The traditional approach of putting your money on a fixed deposit, where returns are below 3%, won’t work.

When the risk, return and liquidity considerations of various investment options are taken into account, along with the increasing complexity of the financial markets and the many competing demands on your time, investing can appear to be a daunting task. KSBM can help.

KSBM’s Wealth Management service involves constructing and managing a customised portfolio with an appropriate mix of investments tailored to suit you. Anyone with savings to invest for a period of 3 years or more should consider a managed portfolio.

How Managed Portfolios Work

KSBM takes a highly personalized approach to achieving your investment objectives. Our wealth management service involves the following step-by-step process:

1. Getting to know you. It is essential that we have a clear understanding of your investment requirements. We will work with you to determine important factors such as your investment objectives and time horizon, current resources, income requirements, return expectations and your risk tolerance; as well as any unique investment preferences you may have.

3. Constructing your investment portfolio. Once you are in agreement with the IPS, the next step is to implement your investment strategy by acquiring investments to create your custom-designed investment portfolio. Rigorous research is conducted to identify high-quality investments for the portfolio. Assets acquired for the portfolio are held at independent third party custodians.

4. Managing your portfolio. We monitor your investment portfolio on a daily basis to ensure only appropriate investments are held. We use active management and tactical asset allocation techniques in managing your portfolio to respond to evolving opportunities and risks in the marketplace.

5. Review and Update. We provide you with regular statements so you are always aware of the assets in your portfolio and how they are performing. We will review your portfolio with you on a regular basis, and will adjust your strategy when necessary to keep you on track. We ensure your portfolio is kept in line with your changing needs and shifting market conditions.

2. Developing investment strategy based on your goals. Once we have an understanding of your unique requirements, we design a personalized investment strategy for you. The investment strategy will include an asset-allocation model for your portfolio. The asset-allocation among the three main asset classes – cash, fixed income and equities – is one of the most important factors in determining the balance between managing risk and achieving higher returns. Your asset allocation and other elements of your investment strategy are captured in an Investment Policy Statement (IPS) which guides the investment process.
